currently im a master DE and master Artisan which has taken up a big chunk of my skill points. My marksman tree is 4,0,0,0 and im 3,1,0,0 on the rifleman tree. Im really not enjoying rifleman at the moment and was wondering if I should drop it and work on pistol? Do you guys thing it would be good? Basicly for personal protection and to be half decent at pvp im not looking to be a great combatant.

The following non-riflemen combat lines currently work "well":

  • BH LLC

  • BH Pistol

  • Commando Heavy Weapons

  • Commando Flamethrower

Outside of those you have CH, combat medic, and doctor, which all work pretty well. Everything else could really use some work, or is a crafting profession.

You should pick whatever line you think is more fun. This is a game after all.

I didn't get as far as you in rifleman, but I ended up dropping it in favor of pistols because I simply found it easier to play, and more fun.

Well if u cannot decide, why not try out both?

I am currently trying out a master rifle + master pistoleer build.

For close and long range attacks. It may or may not work, but what the hack, its all about having fun in the end.

Don't believe in any cookie-cutter class or build. Cos any over-powered class is destined for nerf. Commandos, your turn is next. Wahahahaha.

Rifleman has specials that work ... over 50% of the Pistoleer specials don't.

Stay Rifles or go carbineer.

hate to break it to you but after reading through carbineer, rifleman, and pistoleer forums, i'd say they're all equally broken. but the original poster's question...if you are just looking for some good self defense, pistol is def better than rifle.

reasons for pistoleer being better than rifleman for self defense:

1)holding a rifle means youtake 2.5Xdmg to melee attacks

2)ridiculous ham costs for rifle specials and weapons

3)horrible rifleaccuracy inside of ideal range (right nowpistols have best accuracyat any range, ask a rifleman, carbineer, and a pistoleer for their combat logs and see who misses the most)

4)rifleman is onethe slowest professions to level through because of low dps until you climb through the special abilities tree, which uses combat xp.

50%? Try 100% ... only exception is HealthShot2 but that is bugged as well. Otherwise the specials are worthless at this point.

Definitely go rifle instead.
