Thread: Why bother having a correspondant?
Without a doubt the Pistoleers have one of the best correspondants in the game....kudos to you Jaegan. But after yesterdays patch/nerf, the Dev'sreally don't listen. I mean Jag backs up all of our concerns withtest after test, validnumbers, etc etc....its not just whining. So why didn't they fix one of our issues/concens? I thought for sure that BS3 would be looked at. All I can say is shame on SOE for have people like Jag do all this work spend all that timefor basically nothing... oh waitwe did get something we were ignored
. Just my 2 cents!
The most whined thing in the game last 2 weeks was the AT ST being simply overpowered (bah...this word is far below reality, AT ST are just a shame) so Dev team just throw a bone to players to be able to destroy them more reliably...fine, they didn't limit a thing that is clearly too efficient by giving a class some new ability (or fixing them)...so now, if your city is attacked by 50+ AT ST, all you have to do beside running away is to look for a commando, great, nice game balance. But still an issue they wanted to fix.
I am still confident they can't fix everything in the same time, our turn will come before long and if this patch just thrown us at the bottom of fighting classes, another patch will just (hopefully) fix us. I don't think they can leave us with the poorest ability and poorest weapons while we are supposed to be the more efficient Gunfighting class (actually, at least 2 other classes are better with guns as it stands).
Just wait a bit and don't surrender skills each time a new born game is trying to fix issues.
Alright, I'm going to put my IT/Software Project Manager hat on.
It appears that what they are lacking is a road map of what the completed software was supposed to look and feel like. You cannot run release a beta product and code as you go. The project plan is built backwards based on the final product. If you code as you go.....you get what we have today.
There is no reason why they cannot fix different pieces of software at the same time and piece them together for final release on the test server......I do this every week. They either have a lack of coding resources......or bad a bad program management team.
Jag.......ask the project team if they are all PMP certified and follow PMI's standards.......I'm willing to bet the farm they do not.
TOP 5 REASONS to your question: "Why bother having a correspondant:"
5. So you can hate them when you get nerfed, rather than those that nerfed you.
4. So that it keeps us busy with monkey work, while the REAL issues are addressed in each patch (Like PMD2 getting it's HAM cost nerfed for no apparent intelligent reason, andlike DA2 being left a broken mess, and MTPS STILL not working..but it was fixed..no it wasn't...yes it was..NO, it wasn't)
3. Why is there someone that helps test and coordinate issues, working for free? (who's the REAL fool here)
2. So that the forum is more colorful, our blue highlighted names really add to the forum asthetics.
1. So youhave someone to laugh atwhen you all switch professions and I feel compelled to hang onto pistoleer since I have to correspond on them!

....
The problem with SWG and any other game which leverages an existing franchise (e.g. Tolkein's world online, Matrix online) is that there is a prebuilt fanbase which will buy the product and be largely satisified (and hooked) regardless of how badly designed and implemented the product is.
The economic incentive isn't there to develop a solid game as opposed to releasing early and cashing in as quickly as possible.
If SWG did not have the "SW" there is no way they could succeed like this. Given the Star Wars branding, however, ... its economics 101 that they pull the crap that they do. Seriously, why are any of us still playing if we are unhappy with the quality of the product? It is because 1) it is Star Wars and 2) it is the latest MMRPG game.
If there was a "Star Trek Online" game coming out right about now, SoE employees would be changing their shorts about every 30 minutes.
Oh well I'm spiraling off topic here...

GreenGlowie hell no it wouldnt be funny they are to powerfull as it is. we need him to stick it out to get us outta the hole that everyone is joking about us being in. without him i think we wouldnt compare to an image designer with only those skills
I was pondering this question after the first nerf...er....patch. Especially when Jaegen has done a tremendous job as someone else indicated in gather subjective information and producing hard numbers. He has definitely taken his correspondant title seriously. Kudos to you and much love because I know I wouldn't not have done nearly the work that Jaegen has done. Sorry, I digress...
I realized that SOE were not taking us or the correspondants seriously when then responded to our development issues with one line answers. They have done with these correspondant positions what they have done with this game concept...took a good idea and didn't fully realize it's potential and follow through with a vision (if there truly was one).
Jaegen, they can't fool us...we are still mad at them and not you. BTW, great freakn' job. To bad you took your position more seriously than SOE did.
