Note: If this generic type information is already available on some web site I haven't found yet, please feel free to ignore this question and just point me there. I'm very new to combat skills in general and pistoleer in specific, and haven't found much online yet.
I'm closing in on Novice Pistoleer from Marksman. Thus far I've just been using a really nice (in my uneducated opinion) Scout Blaster from a weaponsmith friend. I know I'm getting more certs as I go up, but thus far I hadn't seen any real reason to upgrade to a different weapon. I'm doing mostly just random mob encounters and faction destroy missions so far, but I hope/plan to start going on some PvP battles and hunts with my friends and would like to optimize my contribution to overall damage.
What weapons represent a real upgrade to a scout blaster, and at what skill level am I certified for them? Are some of them just more situational use than others?

In general, as a novice Pistoleer or higher, you should have at least:
Scout - Low Hams, decent damage, energy attack
FWG5 - Good damage (for a pistol), heat attack
DX2 - Lower damage and higher HAMs and bad accuracy, but it's the best we have for an AP1 pistol, plus it has acid damage.
Use them situationally based on your target's resistances and AR. If you don't have any Scout Hunting skills so that you get more info when you /examine a target, consider picking some up. It can be very helpful.
The Striker (kinetic), Tangle (Stun), and SR Combat (energy, but AP1) pistols should be important parts of our arsenal as well, used situationally like with the other weapons, but unfortunately they tend to have really crappy stats.
