In Holo's post regarding the combat profession in general, in says that he won't discuss Pistoleer's because they're discussed in another post. Does anyone have an address for the other post he's talking about? Also, do when know when the combat patch is going to go live? I might still consider dropping Pistoleer for Rifleman....

Eek... as someone who dropped gimped Rifleman for Pistoleer, I'd recommend against that, my friend. You won't be any good at all until Master, and with the 2.5x melee penalty and warping mobs, you are just asking for a trip to the clone center.

A better path might be to pick up medic skills and use them to compliment your existing Pistoleer skills... I'm nigh unincappable as long as I have mind and stims, since all my attacks use H/A. As a Rifleman, you'll be burning lots of Mind for every shot, and that makes it a bitch to heal yourself as well.

Turn back.. turn back before it is too late... :0

That's funny ... I've had a different experience. I started up a Rifleman alt on another server and I'm having a lot of fun. The warping mobs + 2.5 melee penalty sucks, but aside from that Rifleman is a lot of fun. It does take more strategy, so people who just like to run at a mob and spam a special won't like it, but it's more fun than pistol I think.

You can get Rifle 1 in an hour by fighting the newb stuff around town. Just start 64m away, go prone, and use OverchargeShot. You can get Rifle 2 and 3 in a day or two ... just use /aim before each shot, if you have it, and then use Overcharge or HeadShot2. I was one-shotting red and yellow cons throughout the Rifle marksman tree with a nice 50-550 Laser Rifle (obtained in on my third day via money from AFK sampling).

At Novice Rifleman, you can still kill yellow or red cons easily ... it just takes 3-5 shots, not 1, because you're killing things like Peko Peko and Borvo's Champion. Just use /mindshot1 first, as insurance, and then use /headshot2. Use /aim before each shot, stay prone from 64m, etc. If the mob starts charging you before its dead, just switch to vibroknuckles or survival knife and put armor on. I've been using vibroknuckles even without the cert because when you use Bezerk they'redecent. The bottom line is that I'm just buying timeuntil /mindshot finishes the mob off ... I have a macro to remove my helmet and heal myself, then put the helmet back on. Another thing I do is have a macro to switch to a Spray Stick and fire WarningShot, then switch back to Laser. My Spray Stick is under 2.0 speed so it works well.

PvP with Rifle is moreof a mixed bag. I found it much easier to be useful in PvP earlier with Rifle because /mindshot2 with a good rifle is really badass and you get that at 1/0/0/0 Rifle. The problem is that you have weaknesses, and so a clone war zerg isn't good for you because of all the CH pets running around. I'm really effective (even against high level BHs) as a Rifleman if I am in the right situation and set up the kill, but if I'm 10m away from a guy who is charging at me (or fighting any CH with a brain) I'm worse off. So you have more power but it's more situational.

Interesting. I'm a master doctor as my side job, good to know the con's of rifleman before I get too heavily into it. With enhance Ds all around, getting combat xp in any class isn't too hard. Plus xp groups love me.Unlike Twi'Leks.
