Thread: Pistoleers and armor
So I'm running around getting beat on by all sorts of fauna while wearing just clothes, and I start thinking to myself... "Hmm.. maybe some armor would help.."
So, I would like to know what kinds of armor would you folks suggest for a Zabrak Pistoleer? I'd like something that's not very cumbersome but will help me against all those wounds I end up taking with just clothes on.
Any suggestions?

Honestly armor is basically crap right now. If you absolutely feel the overwhelming desire to try some, get some good high kinetic/energy resist chitin armor with as low encumbrance as you can - anything more is pretty much counter productive for PvE. (At least if you solo a lot - if you have pet medics around all the time then maybe the better armor is worth it - but I doubt it)
Might want to buy a good acid/energy resist composite helmet for pvp though - if you can find one.
I'm very concerned about style, and I'm very concerned about my action pool... And fairly concerned about mind since I'm a medic.
Sometimes I'll go completely naked. This is usually against critters which I can keep away from me entirely, or against things where it doesn't matter (kimogilas)
Against critters who will try to eat me, I want to protect my health pool, I'll padded chest piece and biceps, these protect against both kinetic and energy, and look cool. I don't wear the other arm pieces or gloves because I don't want the action encumbrance.
Against enemies with blasters, I'll put on bone gloves, leggings, boots. It gives good energy protection, and encumbrance doesn't hurt my action pool as bad in those locations.
PvP I'll add a tantel helmet, since it's resistant to a lot of good stuff. And looks cool.
The I had the helmet and biceps made with more effort on reducing HAM cost. The chest piece and helmet also received good encumber slices. The bone pieces are fairly low encumbrance too.
This is my current struggle. Find something to wear that helps me in combat and looks good too. I have bought many a suit of armor only to have it half sliced for encumberance and half for effectiveness every time.
Early in the game, I found a set of really good chitin. I could wear the whole set, it offers good protection, great against melle stuff really, and looks pretty cool with the whole set on. This stuff is still tops, when I know I am going to be getting swarmed by critters.
Now, I find myself wearing either -
1. - Composite helmet, chest, gloves and boots. with a flightsuit or something underneath. I find this to be a very good combo.
2. - A composite helmet, with a set of padded chest, legs, boots and gloves. This is also pretty effective.
I am bouncing back and forth between these two choices. I am having a hard time deciding which is best, they seem about equal.
I am really having a hard time believeing that these chumps that are migrating their stats to around 800 in most areas are better off because they can get that whole set on. Undoubtedly, the full set of composite looks **edit** good, especially the black stuff. But, I'll let them look as cool as they want to in the cloning facility. They seem to be getting easier and easier to kill with those low hams.
Yes, I am a zabrak pistoleer as well.
Composite armor with breath of heaven (food) will let you spam specials as if you weren't wearing armor.
As for regen, take off the helmet, and use stimpaks.
i wear a full set of low encum composite, minus the helmet most times cos i'm a Doc. i'll wear the helm if i'm solo tho.
but to do this i reduced my Action and Health HAM as low as they will go and maxed my mind as high as it will go, any points left have gone into secondary stats. see being a doctor i can buff my own stats for ludicrous ammounts whenever ilike and as long as i dont put the helmet on i'm still at nearly 600 wp and focus so i dont have any issues in a grp at all.
You can get a set of compostie with 40% resist to everything.
That is far superior to any other armor in the game.
As far as encumberance it doesnt not really hurt you that bad, regen
is still slow as hell even with high stats, stimpaks have always been the fastest way to go.
Sweet! I didn't know that!
I bought a helm, without realising I couldn't wear it whilst covert.. Muahah, that'll be wicked. Thanks!
Note, I just now picked up some Voritor scales, and I think those might make some really awesome PVE bone armor. Voritor scales both boost energy and add kinetic protection. Encumbrance takes a somewhat bigger hit though, but it's still low since it's bone armor.
