Thread: Krayt Tisssues: How do they work?
Can someone fill me in on the whole thing with Krayt tissues and how they make you're weapon better? I'm clueless.
In weapon barrel's schematics, there's a slot for an optionnal ranged weapon enhancement.
A weaponsmith uses the krayt in the schematic to get a seriously beefed up barrel that will then go in the final gun, providing a nifty bonus to the weapon.
There are two types - dropped assemblies, and enhancement items.
Dropped assemblies replace a weapon sub-assembly. For example, you'll find a rifle barrel, a power handler, or a feed mechanism. For these to be worth using, the stats on the dropped assembly needs to be better than the stats that a master weaponsmith, using his experimentation points and good resources, can get. This is rarely the case, so these items are almost always useless, with only a couple exceptions (pistol barrels from Nightsisters for example).
Dropped enhancement items go into a special slot that is usually left open in an advanced assembly, so they ADD to, instead of replacing. Krayt Tissue is an example of this. It can be added to advanced power handlers to make them better. Krayt Tissue has a range of stats, with +30 max damage, -0.3 speed, being the most common and the worst. Others are +32 damage, -0.309 speed, +44 damage, - 0.4 speed, +50 damage, - 0.5 speed, and supposedly some as high as +70 damage, although I can't vouch for them. There are many other enhancement items for grenades and melee weapons, but the other one of primary interest to a Pistoleer are the high velocity feed mechanisms that drop from Nyms on Lok. They enhance advanced feed mechanisms. The only ones I've seen so far add another 20 to max damage, but they're may be more varieties.
When dropped, the enhancements usually come in piles of about 4 to a dozen (8 and 9 seem like common drop counts for Krayt Tissue) with the same serial number, which is good, because it means they can be used for factory runs. To use Krayt Tissue in a DX2, for example, you would need 5 identical tissues (identical serial number, not just stats). One to make the schematic, and 4 for the 4 power handlers that a DX2 uses. FWG5s and Scout pistols use one each. I don't think anything uses more than 1 feed mechanism, and some use none. Bonuses from enhancements / assembles do not stack. So a DX2 that used up 5 of your tissues to make, still only gets +30, -0.3 (or whatever the stats on the tissue were), not +120, -1.2.
I've seen Krayt enhanced weapons for sale on master weaponsmith's vendors. They seem to run around 150,000 credits for an enhanced FWG5 or Scatter pistol.
The best stats I've seen so far, from using both a high velocity feed mechanism and Krayt Tissue together, are an FWG5, damage 52-271, 1.0 speed. Not sure why / how the speed was so low. Maybe a Nightsister dropped barrel was used in that and decreases speed?
I have two Krayt Pistols, they are:
FWG5: 68-302 / 2.2
Scout Blaster: 62-195 / 1.2
Hope to get a DX2 made as soon as I get some more tissues.
Keep in mind if your weaponsmith gets a critical failure on construction your krayt tissues go adios. Also a failure on experimentation is obviously very bad. Considering the rarity of Krayt Tissue and the amount of people willing to pay *ANY* price for them, you shouldn't expect to be able to buy them. Basically 1 in 3 Krayts drop loot, the chance of getting tissues dropped is more like 1 in 9. Krayts are a fairly rare spawn (searched the graveyard for 3 hours one night and didn't find any), and also nearly immposible to kill alone, sure there are people who do it alone, our group can do it with about 5 people and a mess of pets, thats not to say we don't get killed sometimes.

Actually they modify the power handler.
