Thread: What do you guys think about my smuggler pistol bonus proposal?

Just a head's up. I'm trying to come up with a way to make a smuggler viable on its own and act as an alternative to the Pistoleer/BountyHunter template.
I also tried to make sure Smuggler didn't become yet another "dabbler's delight."

I only posted here to give a head's up for the constructive members of the Pistoleer profession to form a meaningful discussion.
No offence, but smuggler wasn't meant to be an elite combat profession. It should not sit close to the bounty hunter/pistoleer template. Pistoleer doesn't even sit close to the bounty hunter template now. I know that you guys have some broken skill issues, but we have alot of broken skill issues. All we can do for now is hope to get thecurrent problems fixed.![]()

are u kidding? smuggler is no ways meant to be better than pistoleer or bounty hunter, but imho better atrunning away from a pistoleer or bounty hunter. when the current problems get fixed, ie dodge, etc...a smuggler vs a pistoleer would be a nightmare...unless they both shared the profession (ie dual masters).
- the pistoleer would dodge the smuggler's shots (well some of them)
- the smuggler shoots as slow as moss growing on rocks
- feign death wont fool the pistoleer, you can still shoot at the faker on the floor
- master pistoleers can get off at least 2 stopping shots for every last ditch the smuggler shoots (dont want to even touch fanshot =P)
BUT if u see master pistoleers with dirty fighting (according to the changes proposed by dinian), ppl would cry nerf as it would be like being a pistol bh/master pistoleer (237 sp)with LESS points...well almost....master pistoleer/master smuggler (184 sp) would be a lil close...but without having to master scout and marksman. only difference would be no eyeshot with this build (well doesnt matter anyway, its being moved to master bh)
quite a predicament, i am just afraid this will be the new pistol dabbler trendy template.
pistoleer defenses are supposed to give it an edge, as bh's have no defensive mods...i still think defensive mods are broken.
pistoleer and carbineer seem to be the enhancing classes, picked up for better combat =/
I think this was an interesting idea, and I understand the reasoning behind it, but the bottom line of the proposal is that it just gives a significant bonus to people who already dabble in Smuggler for the Dirty Fighting line. I know you're also giving a bonus at Master Smuggler, which is nice, but all that does is help make the Master Smuggler/Pistoleer combo more effective against the BH Pistol/Pistoleer combo. The problem isn't that Smuggler/Pistoleer can't compete with BH Pistol/Pistoleer ... it's that we're having this whole problem in the first place. ![]()
So the real issue is the fact that there is not enough of an incentive for anyone to master ANY of these professions because all of the useful skills are obtainable in a single template. It's bizarre that the best pistol template at the moment is BH Pistol 4 + Smuggler Dirty Fighting + two boxes of Pistoleer for speed + Novice Commando. Your solution is basically a bandaid that helps people who get Smuggler compete if they don't have BH as well.
The real solution to the problem needs to get rid of this problem altogether. The basic ways to do that are #1) make the modifiers non-stackable and #2) move the best skills and modifiers higher up on the tree.
