Thread: Should Pistol and Rifle DPS be even?
My answer is no, they should not be even.
Reasons being we have the 2.5x melee modifier preventing us from being able to take any real sort of damage. We also have extreme problems with sustained DPS due to our specials using mind instead of a healable pool.

I think the DPS should be even. I don't see what the 2.5 melee modifier has to do with balancing versus pistoleer, since we're not melee. Why does the 2.5 melee modifier give you a disadvantage against us? It doesn't. Frankly I think the 2.5 melee thing is stupid and should be removed.
Also, I support increasing rifle damage to make sure that they are getting the right amount of DPS. They should hit slower shots that are much harder than ours, so they can kill in just 1-3 hits while we have to shoot a lot of fast shots that are much weaker.
You're not trolling - it's a valid question.
It's actually one of those "million dollar questions" that we need to get some guidance on from the devs. We can all sit here and argue until we're blue in the face about how "things should be" - but without an understanding from the developers about what their original intent was, it's all kinda pointless.
That said, I think that DPS should be roughly the same across the various weapon types.
when you compare a master pistoleer/carb/rifleman then yes i think the dps should even. that is ideal balance. all wpns should be balanced in effectiveness which is what dps demonstrates. they just should go about getting the dps in different ways.
then i think prof utilities need to be balanced outside of the damage equation. right now as crappy as the riflemen think thier utilitiies are, im pretty sure the pistol utilities are worse. but thats a different argument. do you want a ranged db or a 3-5 percent dodge ability? i think those are pretty close to balanced in usefulness or lack there of...
balance ensures diversity in the player community. thats why a good mmo always strives for balance
Rifleman and Pistolier dps should be different. Rifleman and pistolier damage over time should be the same... They are different... Rifleman use mind and LOTS of itwhich cant be healed, that needs to be taken into account... Atm we alsohave a VERY small optimum range so we need to do have HIGHDPS to kill the mob before he gets in melee range for PvE sake.

OK what if a master rifleman and master pistolereer both stood at 31.5m, and started firing at each other at exactlly the same time, niether one using any specials.
Who should be incapped first? In that situation I'd say it should bevery even.
Atover 32mand no specials, the rifleman should win more.
At under 31m and no specials, pistoleer.

Damage per second ...This is short term dmg when your looking at a 10 second interval.
Damage over time... Thisis when you look at total damage over10 minutes.
They are different because how the game is now pistoliers have a MUCH higher damage over time but Rifleman have a MUCH higher damage per second. The factor causeing this is HAM costs because A) rifleman mind cant be healed by a doctor and B) are riflemans HAM usage ishigher....
