Thread: Musings on Knockdown

I think there might actually be 'states' of knockdown, with some results being different than others.

I was farming some creatures for Herbivore meat and was using knockdown (they're pretty weak, so the five second KD was enough to kill them without being hit most often). I think I observed a couple of possible scenarios:

1. I missed, they attacked as normal
2. I hit, but it said I failed to knockdown the target. I could follow this with a successful KD afterwards.
3. I hit and KD'd them. As soon as I caused any damage, they would spring right back up. They were not, however, able to hit me for five seconds since the initial hit. They just stood there.
4. I hit and KD'd them. They stayed down for the full five seconds and as soon as they were up they were attacking again.

Now, what I noticed with number 3 is that my damage seemed to be normal, even for the post KD hit. I would have expected that the +50% knockdown bonus would have applied to the first hit, but it never seemed this way. Although I should have been logging the data (will try tonight), they seemed to be taking normal damage for the full time.

With #4, there seemed to be the full bonus on every shot while they were down, which led to much increased damage.

Perhaps there are chances to achieve a true knockdown and chances just to suspend their attacks. I can say that #3 happend much more often than #4, but I was beginning to suspect that there may have been some pattern to which happened more often based on creature type. #2 was also pretty rare (I can recall maybe 10 out of the 400 creatures I killed last night).

Has anyone else experienced this?

I too have experienced this kind of KD confusion. My experience is more like a cross between 3 and 4. I KD them, they fall andtake 1-2 hits with damage bonus, then get right back up and start attacking. I use fanshot after KD hoping for a health hit, then follow up with Body2 (if I did indeed get a health hit in) or more fanshots to take out action/mind bar (usually action).

I no longer PvP. There is no reason to PvP imo.

Iremember when i had low blowand one was able to spam kd's.

I kneeled and shot at the mob then when it started to advance i low blowed it and it went down. The numbers(to-hit modifier)on the left side of the HAM-bars did change.

I noticed that when the mob was kd:ed the numbers changed, although whenthe mob instantly popped to standing the numbers stayed the same as it was whenlaying down. So the to-hit modifier is probably the same although you see the mob as standing. You should however get the kd-bonus, at least i did(i think). Long time ago and idont have any logs left :\

I've only noticed increased damage on melee attacks, not ranged attacks, vs KD To be fair, that really make more sense.

As for other stuff, what the game thinks is happening and what the animation is showing is often very different.
