look at this from another perspective and realize that BH's with launcher get exploration and get to harvest corpses for meat hide or bones. as well as make tents and heal themselves or call pets etc..
yes it takes more skill points but they also have more flexibility.
I have taken a more defined route and chose to be pistoleer and doctor.. i can only master one.. I once was a BH so i have given up the ability to climb mountians really fast therefore traveling across planets is tough i cant camp so if i lose my pet its gone till i get back to town.
So from the point of view we are more limited we should actually be better in the skill and have more choices in weapons and do more damage than a BH whos skills are spead out over many areas.
Pistoleers should not have to be subordinate in our chosen profession we should excel in pistol skill and lack in camping and foraging and melee fighting and we do lack.. we have yet to become the master of the pistol.
