I remember reading somehwere that the AP on the DX2 is broken. is this true?

There is a game wide bug with weapons that are AP1, AP2, or AP3 when used against vulnerable targets. It is not specific to the DX2, although the DX2 does suffer from it because it is an AP1 pistol.

The bug:

Any weapon used against a mob that is vulnerable to that damage type acts like AP0 vs AR0.

So you're actually BETTER off with a DX2 against a mob that is AR0 with 10% acid resistance than one that is AR1 and vulnerable to acid.
