Thread: Reasonable, Peaceful Post From a Rifleman
I am in no way saying that Bounty Hunters should be the supreme fighters. All I was trying to say was that if you did BH and mastered a combat class (pistol, carbine and i think they should have left it as the lightning rifle) then you are going to be a 'super fighter'. That is just the way the game is designed. I mean aside from all the bugs and balance issues of weapons and skill points- the BH is meant to have the possibilty of becoming a stronger fighter than just an elite fighting class alone. The Devs knew this from the beginning and so one must assume it was done on purpose.
Think of it like this for instance: There are 3 groups of classes... Fighters, Healers, and Artisans. Well aside from just having a variety of Fighter/Healer or even combining 2 fighter classes they decided to add in a 'special' class that allowed a Fighter to further specialize in their area of expertice instead of being a hybrid fighter/artisan combo. A lot of games have this, but not exactly like SWG. So BH allows for more 'focused' fighters like Carbineers and Pistoleers (and used to have Rifle too). How is this unbalanced? How is this a problem? Other games have pure fighters, hybrid classes, pure healers, etc. Why can't we have pure fighters in SWG? Just because it has the title "Bounty Hunter" don't let it fool you. The investigation part of BH is completely useless. The only reason to have BH is to specialize in fighting. Can't us pure fighters have an advantage over people who do more than just fight? Doesn't that seem fair to you? I spend all my time in game focusing on fighting and being able to be the best at what I do. In real life if you were a good cook and a good fighter do you think you could beat someone who fights 24-7? Would you complain if you lost that fight? Please people, just think about it.

Folks,
BH/pistoleer is powerful for two reasons, and two reasons only.
1. eyeshot
2. speed cap.
With speed broken, #2 is always a problem, but you do know rifles hit the cap for fewer skill points than pistols, and high dmg/low speed weapon design favors them even more. That's in the works to be changed.
Eyeshot is probably being moved to master BH. That means only master BHs will be your issue, pistoleers will be neutered back to master pistoleer + smuggler at best.
Even if it stayed in, I don't see how it will continue to be the problem it has been. And it's certainly not Pistoleers problem that speed has an issue, and eyeshot is wicked.
Just to give a different opinion let me say that I respectfully disagree. First off as an Expert Bounty Hunter / Master Pistoleer I have to say that the stats you think stack really don't stack very well (at least until they fix the speed). Right now I can use Stopping Shot at the exact same speed as when I was just an Expert Bounty Hunter with just Pistol Tech 3 and nothing else. Perhaps the accuracy is slightly better, but not noticeably so. The only real reason I chose to master Pistoleer is the dodge and defense bonuses which frankly aren't worth very much. Unfortunately none of the other classes seem worthy enough for me to drop Master Pistoleer.
On that note I don't think the problem is that Bounty Hunters and Commandos are too powerful. I think the problem is that Rifleman and the other fighting professions just aren't up to the same level. I definitely agree that needs to be fixed. Pistol does seem to be the most widely used weapon though and I do like the idea of promoting other weapons like Carbines and such. Maybe they could make smuggler attacks carbine only (just an idea) and actually FIX Bounty Hunter so that people want to Master it instead of just getting the Pistol skills.
Anyway my point is I think we need to focus on what is needed to fix each profession individually and work out the balancing after each class actually works the way they are supposed to.

Exactly

I agree with that, believe it or not. But I added some bold face in there, because I don't think we CAN do that as long as the mods from one class can change the final stats of another DIRECTLY. I'm always open to OTHER solutions to the Hybrid problem. . . I just can't think of any. Heh. It's not exactly and easy nut to crack.
See I don't think of hybrid mods as a problem. Everyone has access to the same number of skill points and so they have the ability to mix and match. A Master Creature Handler Master Medic could easily take me down. Should we "nerf" this combination? The entire game is based around using different combinations of different classes. Unfortunately many/most of the professions in this game need to be fixed desperately. I actually think Pistoleer is one of them. My solution is still a realistic one because if you fix all the professions to actually function to the same level as others then a Master Rifleman, Master Ranger for instance should be able to take me down before I can even get a shot off. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way because BH Pistol is one of the few truly useful skill lines in the game.
Another solution is one that you yourself touched on which would be to make other 'hybrid' professions. Carbine smuggler or Carbine BH would be cool - if they worked. Heck if they fixed pistoleer then you'd see a lot less Expert Bounty Hunters around because then we wouldn't need to spend all those points mastering 2 entire basic professions just to get to use a pistol better. Fix DX2s and Pistoleer speed and I'll drop BH in a heartbeat. I'm dying to get some of those points back. Let Rangers get some cool rifle bonuses or something... like an upgraded Threaten Shot. Trust me everyone complained about the AT-STs before they beefed up commandos and now no one complains about them anymore. Its going to be the same with Pistoleer BHs I promise. Once they make the other professions more powerful/useful then you won't even notice an imbalance.
