Thread: Tracked down the DX2 AP bug (I think)!
To the poster that says they already know. After reading most of Holo's posts I can say that there is quite a bit he doesn't know about this game. If no one speaks up and brings things like this to his attention then it will be a long time before we see it fixed.

DiLune... We have all READ the Armor guide... what we are saying is that it is WRONG, or more correctly there is a BUG that is making say an AR2 Heat weapon act as an AR0 weapon if fired at a creature with a Vulnerablity to Heat, making it AR0 vs AR0,as apposed to ignoring the armor and getting the AR2 vs AR0 bonus as described in the Armor guide from SOE.
That is not what people have been saying. They have been saying is that AR2 armor isn't applying to vulnerability, which I was trying to clarify. Many people get that confused. You don't, great!
And saying AP isn't working is completely wrong. AP is working just fine. AP vs AR 1 or betterwith vuln isn't giving bonus damage though. That's the truth. The other is a lie and gives people the wrong impression. If I use an AP1 gun vs something with AR1 then my gun correctly is not reduced by 50%. So AP isn't working? Yes, its working. But ONE aspect of it, a very secondary aspect, isn't. That's the truth.
Well other than the vulnerability issue, there is no bonus for using an AP1 Gun vs. someone with AR0, I'm talking pvp here.
The vulnerability issue is with PvE where your examine window shows the enemy having AR0 and they are VULNERABLE to a certain damage type, let's say Acid, yet your DX2 with AP1 gets no bonus damage because of this.
So 2 major aspects of AP are broken atm.
When I examined it, it had 15% to ALL damage types, no vulnerabilities, & AP0 so I thought I'd try out the test.
I begin to shoot it with my DX2 and get the same numbers above it's head & in the combat spam.
So I switch to my SR Combat pistol, and I notice the damage above the target's head goes higher than what is in the combat spam(which is to be expected).
So here's where I dont get it. The creature had 15% to both energy and to acid, so there was no difference at all, yet the SR Combat pistol did extra damage while the DX2 did not.
From everything I've read they both should have been doing more damage, or at the very least- both been doing no extra damage
[Another thing that would make this all easier, is if the Dev's just put the ACTUAL damage in the combat window to begin with- maybe make the AP modifiers display separately like EQ crit's or something]
We had kind of been through the DX2 issues several times, but I hadn't seem people testing SR's.
Good stuff, Iduno.
Madrox, your numbers are pretty crazy looking. Are you sure the numbers were EXACTLY the same with the DX2 vs. the AR0, 15% acid resist krahbu?? Because I would expect a 100 raw damage to to 100 x 1.25 x .85 = 106 damage.
I was getting a 10-15% boost in damage on the SR(which is expected), and the DX2 numbers were exactly the same as the combat spam. Could possibly be a bug in the mob type displaying incorrect resists, I'll try to find some more.
If what Madrox posts is true, then apparently there are problems with the dx2OTHER THAN the basic problems with vulnerabilities negating the AP rating.
Anyone able to reproduce these results?
Original post... good info, although I think it's been known for some time now that a mob having vulnerability negates your AP rating of the weapon you're using. At least I've heard people stating that this occurs for the DX2 a long itme ago.
I'm getting into this thread late, because I don't read the forums much anymore, but anywhooo... This data was actually confirmed right here on the Pistoleer forum long before even the WeaponSmith forum post. It's just that back then everyone wanted to believe that their DX2 was working and wouldn't listen.
In that original thread I had a huge table showing various mobs that a DX2 worked against and didn't. And just as the original poster claimed, it worked on mobs that showed no resistances EXCEPT in 2 cases that I found. They were a Large Chuba and a Massive Gnort which I found on Naboo. InSo if you examine a regularGnort and a Massive Gnort you'll see that both have no resists and no AR. Yet 1 gets 125% damage from a DX2 and one only getsnormal damage.
This finding on the Massive Gnort and Large Chuba was way back in June, so it may not still be the case. I don't play much anymore so I can't really check it.
Super work everyone, attention is being paid to this issue on the corr forum, no speciifcs of course becuase we can't cross post, but it's being read by devs. Aldeon brought it up and we clarified the issue, it's pretty crystal clear IMO.
That's good news!
