Thread: What is currently the best type of pistol

Okay, this might be a stupid question, but how do I find out what resists creatures have? I see a lot of talk on the forums about making sure you're using the right kind of pistol for the mob's resists, but I've no idea how to find out.

Can anyone help?

My DX2 always does more damage than either of my FW5G's.

Always? Go to Dantooine. Find a Seething Bol Crusher lair. Proceed to attack the Seething Bol Crushers with your DX2 using Body Shot 2. Switch weapons to your FWG5 and also attack using Body Shot 2. The damage from the FWG5 will be considerably higher.

I have no scout skills yet I am able to tell resists on creatures (or other enemies) I am fighting. What I am not able to tell is the type of resources they give, their challenge level, etc.

/agree with Altitude25

Resists, effectiveness, vulnerability info are available to all. (My pistoleer character does not have any scouting ability.)

It's very important to look for this. I have an awesome FWG5 (krayt weapon, sliced) and the other night with a party on Dathomir we were hunting rancors. Gee, I wasn't getting any xp at all...what's up with that? Duh, rancors have 100% resistance to heat. Switched to my scout and I started hitting again. The best weapon in that circumstance was definitely NOT the FWG5.

Hehe, I'm nearly a master scout and I didn't even know that. LOL!

Well for pvp my fwg5 owns hands down. http://members.cox.net/morphic0011/screenShot0080.jpg its not the best pve however. Theres tons of mobs who have different resists so its always good to carry different types of sidearms.

Just made Novice Pistoleer last night myself, and got a brand-spankin' new state of the art (I think) DX2.

One thing I haven't noticed anybody mention in this thread is range/accuracy modifications? Is it because they're just not very important? The DX2 seems to be built for extreme point-blank range, even moreso than my Scout Blaster, so I was thinking it might make sense to use my FWG5 at "medium" range, then the DX2 when really close up.

Or is the point that the differences are too minimal to matter much?

Everyone is 100% correct on checking the resists and using the corresponding damage type gun.

I don't bother with the Striker pistol as I find on my server they're so weak, you do more damage with another gun type even when you work in the resists.

I usually carry around an FWG5 (1.7 56-240 preslice 63-295 sliced), Tangle Pistol (these need to get better DEV's, can't even put Krayt or anything in to juice it up), DX2 (2.0 100-154), and lastly I say....

Forget the Scout Blaster, I have 3 DH17 Pistols that are only 2-3 points off from each other on Damage stats, my best one being 1.6 114-213, I've yet to see a scout anywhere near those stats after slicing.

Another tip, Stun has special damage against Droids. It almost doubles what the stats of the gun are. If you have a decent Stun Damage weapon, you should rip through Droids. I have Rifle 4 as well, so I was mostly using my Jawa Rifle, but a good Tangle will help you to.

I'm hoping to find some really high end Krayt tissues soon so that I can add an SR Combat pistol to my arsenal unless they fix the Republic Blaster first.

This is from Jaegen

speed is detailed in the FAQ.

It's weapon speed * special attack delay - (weapon speed * special attack delay * Speedmod/100.

If i had a 2.0 FWG and used stopping shot, 4.0 delay, with pistol speed +74 (master pistoleer value of speed)
It would be 2.0 * 4.0 - (2 * 4 * 74/100)

I saw someone post that a lower damage scout with 1.3 speed was better. Thats only if you dont have good speed mods yet. Get familiar with this, it makes a big difference.

I personally use my dx2 over my fwg5 most of the time. Mine are like 60 to 199 fwg5 and like 100+to 197. The minimum really helps for those low shots and now that Im using fanshot i rarely miss on all of the creatures targeted. I perfer hitting for 1100-1400 as opposed to like 600-1k.

I think DX2 is Light Armor Piercing. Keep this in mind when choosing a weapon. Also, look at the damage numbers that float above the target's head. That is supposedly the actual damage taken, as where the combat chat window shows how much you dealt. The actual will be different based on resist, vulnerabilities and armor piercing/armor's resistance.

Now if they'd only fix that republic blaster, AR1, good speed and decent damage Energy pistol.
