Thread: Holocron Why Pistoleers are currently so popular

Let me amend what I just wrote - I mean non-combat roleplayers, such as Doctors, Dancers, or Architects. Businesspeople and service classes, basically. It's kind of a strange Architect who roleplays a house sale with a rifle in her hands (though I could see the potential for an interesting exchange...).

I was a Rifleman / Eye Shot character for a while ... that is where I first noticed the Pistol's superiority to the other weapons .

So I ditched Rifle and picked up Pistol and what a surprise ... even more damage and accuracy than rifles ( the supposed " high damage best ranged " weapon in the game ) with much much lower ham costs .

It's been said before and I'll say it again .... why NOT go pistol ??? IT's far superiour to the other weapons BECAUSE THE OTHER WEAPON PROFESSIONS ARE BROKEN .

I'm sure the Dev solution to this will be to break pistols when the correct thing to do would be to fix rifles and carbines . I'm not going to go into depth about what's broken in the Rifleman and the Carbineer professions . Their boards are FULL of all the information you need .

Please fix these issues soon , the broken state of this game is getting old fast

Peace all

Jon

So did you quit before you made master rifleman?

How far did you go in the rifle skill tree?

Isn't Eye shot a bounty hunter skill?

Thought rifleman got mindshot?

May the Nerf be with you.

SmugglerFlux ,

Nah, I knew exactly what he was asking. Think statistically.

Started Carbine, switched to architect...XP'd...switched to pistoleer

Started BH, XP'd a while, started pistoleer

started smuggler XP'd a while (or mastered, didnt seem to take too long), start pistoleer

start a chef, xp a while, start the combat side, pistoleer

Start any profession, PVP a while, start pistoleer/BH pistol 4

Start any profession, see how fast pistoleers XP'd and witness what AOE knockdown does on a regular bases...start pistoleer

Started Carbine, Swithced to pistoleer

Start commando, throw your keyboard, start pistoleer

Any reason WHY you'd be a pistoleer, is the same reason there is a surge in the numbers. The only difference is timing, which isn't all that relevant given that the game is non-linear and you can mix/match professions at will. It can be people switching, it can be people just now getting to adding pistoleer, it could be new people that read the boards and see misinformed people saying they pistoleers are too powerful. In many cases, it's probably just people getting around to working the combat side. If that's all we wrote, the question is then, well, WHY did they choose pistoleer? Which is the real question, no?

I think I missed the one about "carbine/rifle users look dorky while carrying their weapon", but otherwise, I think I caught most of it.

one other thing i've noticed and this can cover more then one of the complaints that people have with BH and pistoleer's. I noticed a good number of PvP players are combining the pistol/bh and carbine/BH skills together to gain the speed bonuses with the up comming 30 second timer most of the dabblers as we have nicknamed them have dropped the carbine and have started to climb the pistol speed boxes (easy to do they have all that extra combat exp cause the speed bonuses for carbine take carbine skills and none is needed for BH (other then novice) but here is the real kicker if the speed equasion is correct in the pistoleer FAQ then by getting 2 boxes of pistoleer speed bonus and the full tree of BH pistol you can have over +100 pistol speed let put that in to the equasion for weapon speeds and it's all over

2.0 weapon X 3.5 mod - (2.0 X 3.5 X 1.00weapon speed skill)

what this means is the dabbles can then fire eyeshot once a second because they +100 skill negates all speed mods for specials the way the numbers are workes in the game

so whats this mean players get eaten by the dabbelers be it eye shot or one of our skill shot at them at 1 per second and then scream nerf the BH nerf the pistoleer

simple solution make elite class bonuses to basic weapon skill their own skill increase and then use the highest skill mod added to the basic skills earned in marksman

this solution is not the best because of the high pistol speeds that can be created and +74 for a basic pistoleer with a 1.2 speed weapon (yeah they can be made with the new special drops and slicing) any special under 3.5 will shoot once a second with master marksman's pistol speed added on all specials can pretty much be shot once a second add on novice medic and buy good stim b's to heal the action dammage or get a doctors buff and our dammage output is huge over 10 seconds.

yeah I know this is calling out for another swing of the nerf bat for us pistoleers but the devs are never going to fix our specials as long as the dammage potential for our class is so far ahead of the others right now there is no skill or thought with pistoleer it's been stated time and time again we spam the best DPS shot we have until the target is dead and it works add in our one working special pistol whip and as long as you can survive the first hit there is no mob we can beat one on one don't belive me try this macro i soloed a krayt with it /melledefence1;/bodyshot2;/bodyshot2/healdammage;/ui action toolbarSlot00;
i used my pokimon pet and a droid to distract it as I ran in and got the first hit in. even the few times I missed the pistol whip there was still enough time on the delay for me to get to doing it again it took 7 tries and 45 min after I got a sucsesful KD on it but hey soloed a krayt no AT-ST needed

matrix_dancer ,

Yes.

And you know what scares us? We suggested that BH/pistol change a long, long time ago (well, in forum terms!).

We also reported the speed issue as soon as we saw how borked it was, and that it would lead to imbalance.

What you say is correct, and it's been discussed, posted, reported, and discussed some more. It's the "take action" part that isn't happening. Well, at least the "recognition" part would be nice. I can understand that taking action might take some time.

Maybe we should start a general sticky of "what's broken and why in SWG". But honestly, that sounds like a time sink , on top of pistoleer stuff. I'd rather sticky someone else's post

Great post! Mega great! Only 1 problem. Its a pistoleer forum.

Pistoleers cool? Yes, we cool - lets nerf us all now. Carabiners have many problems? Yes they have? 50% sa is not working? But pistoleers have more than 50.

Last patch is another useless toy.

Dodge - dont work

Fan shot - dont work

Point blank - who was creator this strange SA?

Multi-target shot - useless, and dont work

Disarming shot - what is it? layer damager? - lol

Stopping shot - hmm, random pull - maybe for pvp...., but useless

Body shot 3 - i like it - just BS2 > BS3 - all other is really cooool

Need more? I think no.

But our correspondent cry about carabiners - how pathetically

Another profession that "lends itself" to pistoleer is Combat Medic / Doctor. Heals go into your combat queue. Since pistols generally fire faster, it makes getting the heal out quicker.

Also, since many, many mobs are melee only, and pistols are "close proximity" weapons, it's the best ranged weapon for fighting up close.

no our correspondent is correct carbineers are even worse off than we are.

Still I gotta ask.. do YOU DEV'S EVEN PLAY THE GAME??

if you do come sit in the cantina in moenia in ANY of the servers.. you'll see the player reaction is totally negative.

NO ONE has anything good to say.

Play the game devs.. stop asking moronic questions that even 5 minutes thought.. IF YOU PLAYED THE GAME would tell you the answer to.

Thank you for stickying this for us Jaegen. Once again above and beyond the call of duty. And thanks for giving me credit for the suggestion in my thread. =) I feel famous now. =)

Why aren't you a Dev? Are they working as closely with the correspondants as they should be? I haven't checked out the other proffessions correspondants, but you seem to lay things out very organized and succinct. I am suprised that the Dev's are as clueless as they seem to be with players out there doing this kind of leg work. Not just sunshine, but my observation.

Thanks again.

Nice post Jaegan, but you are kind of missing his point with some of those. Holo didn't ask why a greaterpercentage of players are Pistoleers than Carbineers (or any other combat class). He asked why thereis suddenly a mich higher percentage of themsince the last time he checked. Several of your explanations answer the former, but have no bearing on the latter. But I'm sure Holo can pick through and find the ones that do answer his question...

12. Some folks mention it, I think it's silly, but some swear, that pistols being the starting weapon you get in the tutorialconfuses them into XPing pistols at first, then they just stick with it since they already made progress (!?).(Offer Carbine/Rifle/Pistol for marksman rather than just pistol at game start so it's "fair")

For some unknown reason I had a rifle equipped after coming out of the tutorial on my first character (he is a marksman), and it actually did take a while before I thought about it. If I hadn't felt like I just had to be a pistoleer, I most likely would have continued using rifles.
