I just reread my post from before and in my rush to tab back into the game I wasn't very articulate...

But yeah, you got the gist of it I gave up on Pistoleer, at least for now. I was going BH originally, so it's just a matter of rebuilding 2 lines in Scout that I had surrendered (still master Marksman).

LLC is great for pve
Eye shot is great for pvp
Torso shot and the extra bleed are nice too, and Scatter pistols are nice (high HAM though)

Pistoleer has zilch to offer other than some accuracy and speed bonuses and a bleed at novice.

Hopefully in the future they'll fix Pistoleer enough to make it a decent choice to switch back.

great post jaegen. just a thought, make BS3 a cone AEO(our AEO health pool target shot) with the increased damage. make DA2 a single target shot. make MTPS a high damage random HAM AEO shot.

Col,

Good suggestion. However, we were struggling just to get BS3 improved at all. Changing it to AOE would necessitate that it be kept at the same (or less ) damage than BS2 and cost more HAM to fire. Also, power-wise, that would probably be more effective than MTPS, making it hard to justify why it's on the 3rd rung. I think pistoleers need a hard hitting single targethealth shot, since it's currently the ONLY healt targeted shot we have.

Jaegen, I would recommend a post along these lines:

Devs, you're asking us to help you by highlighting class weaknesses, finding bugs, and making suggestions for how to improve balance, but it would assist us a great deal in doing so if you would help us as well. Instead of our wasting tons of time having to test everything to figure out the equations for speed, how dodge works, what the damage and delay multipliers are for specials, etc..., why don't you provide us with more information so that we can see how things are supposed to work. We can spend hours determining that BS2 and BS3 appear to be broken because BS1 has a better damage / delay ratio (higher DPS multiplier) than either of them, but if there are additional factors, like increased wound chance, increased accuracy modifiers, etc..., then we might be wasting our time, and our community's time, and making requests that don't properly address game balance. In addition, it could help show what we should be testing by bringing to light some things that are supposed to be a certain way, but that doesn't appear to be working as intended from our playing experience.

Jaegen,

One thing I was just thinking about. I saw that you asked for MTPS to be an AOE Health-Targetted shot. Just make sure they use at least a 3.0 multiplier on it ... it should be 4.0, frankly, like the other Master special. If they keep it at 2.0 no one will use it.

Bravo Jaegen! I'll be staying and not doing the bounty hunger thing cos it's not in my character's nature to go that way. (A BH killed her dad.) I have it in mind to stick it out, even if I have to go on hiatus for a little due to real life stuff.

As for the Merr-Sonn Q2 (Republic Blaster) and the Tenloss DX-2... well, see my thread about them at:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=pistoleer&message.id=13952

Really, the DX-2 needing 4 power handlers makes sense when you take into account what it was supposed to be. The Tenloss DX-2 Disruptor pistol was supposed to disrupt the molecular structure of the target with one massive burst of energy. Hence the need for extra power handlers. They were suposed to be rare and hard to find weapons. In the current point in the timeline in the game, you're only supposed to be able to get handmade DX-2's from the black market. And on a lot of worlds, posession of a DX-2 or DXR-6 carries the death penalty. It was supposed to have lousy range, story-wise. It's too bad they never gave us the damage and the effect it was supposed to have had too. A properly working DX-2 would be nice. But I don't hold out much hope.

And as for the Merr-Sonn Q2, that's a joke. A snub-nosed hold-out pistol? No thanks. How about a weapon that packs a punch and effect appropriate to an elite profession? In my thread I've suggested plenty of alternatives to the DX-2 and the Q2 that would be a step up for us, as well as give master pistoleers more than just the ONE weapon cert for our profession. Possible Alternatives are:

The Bryar Pistol (Kyle Kataarn's beginning weapon from Dark Forces/Jedi Knight)
The Pacnorval Defense Systems Ltd, Sd-77 Sonic Pistol (Stunned Status Effect?)
The Merr-Sonn Munitions IR-5 'Intimidator' (REALLY fast Full-Autopistol)
The Kelvarek Consolidated Arms 'Dissuader' KD-30 (A true ACID based Slugthrower)
The Merr-Sonn Model 434 'DeathHammer' (An intimidating pistol cert to get with Stopshot?)
The Blas-Tech T-6 'Thunderer' Heavy Blaster Pistol (A weapon that does MAD bleed damage?)
The Verpine Shatter Gun (For kinetic damage, you really can't do better than a railgun)

And finally, The Merr-Sonn MSD-32 Disruptor Pistol. Folks, if we're looking for a gun that was supposed to have a bit better range than the DX-2. Not have all the extra power handlers like the DX-2. Do better damage than the DX-2, all the manuals and reference books I've been able to find on the matter suggest that the MSD-32 was the answer to all the problems the DX-2 presented.

So who needs the DX-2 or the Republic Blaster? Frell that! Let's have some REAL bang for our buck and get some real pistols in our hands.

lol, funny picture on the link.

That's all SWG universe stuff? I might cut/paste that over to the dev board just as a reference in case they do indeed want some search string tips. Some of those sound mighty cool. Of course, I'd have thought a disruptor pistol would be cool too :/

Seriously though, they plan on adding more content weapon-wise, at some point we might see some of those would be my hope

As a matter of fact, tell me what board to post it to, and I'll put a revised version of my thread up with corrections and the like myself.

To be good in PvP with a pistol, the best choice is bounty hunter, plain and simple.

I'd like to dispute this by saying a pistoleer/smuggler rocks all. To date I've racked up 4 kills on bounty hunters where they lived a total of 2 seconds against me. It takes too long to kill someone with eye shot.

It is indeed all Star Wars Universe stuff. Having seen how close some of the illustrations come to the actual weapons, particularly the ones of the Tenloss DX-2, I'd imagine that the Devils (DEV'S! I meant to say Dev's!) consulted some of the same books I referenced for these pistols. Especially since the model numbers on the DX-2, the DXR-6, and the FWG-5 all seem to appear in those books in relation to the weapons we've seen, more or less. It was said back before release that they were consulting every little piece of SW trivia they could to enhance the (AHEM) reality. But in case they didn't get hold of some of the books I have, the three I referenced were:

1. Star Wars: Galladinium's Fantastic Technology: Guns and Gear for Any Occasion.
West End Games, 1995

2. Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Weapons & Technology,
Bill Smith/David Nakabayashi/Troy Vigil
Del Rey (Ballantine Publishing) 1st Ed. 1997

3. Star Wars Roleplaying Game: Arms and Equipment Guide
Jeff Grubb and Owen K.C. Stephens
Wizards of the Coast, 2002

These books usually reference weapons that were used at one time or another in the expanded universe, like the Stohkli Spraystick. It's odd to see the progression of ideas really. The new Star Wars RPG by Wizards grew mostly from the new movies, Dark Horse Comics (Exar Kun's Doublesaber from Dark Horse appears in title #2 from 1997 above before we ever saw Maul.) and expanded universe. The Expanded Universe in turn, seems to have grown from the wealth of fan fiction generated by the Older Star Wars RPG from West End Games, which in turn seemed to hace ITS seeds in the older movies, the older cartoons (Ewoks, Droids), and the Marvel Comics run of Star Wars.

Having stood steward over quite a lot of this would be Bill Slavicsek, who worked at West End Games, with the publishers of the EU books with folks like Timothy Zahn and Kevin J Anderson from their days writing fiction for the RPG publication. And Now he's heading up the new D20 System version of the Star Wars RPG over at Wizards of the coast.

In any case, it would seem the sources for the guns I'm touting come from good hands.
