Thread: Question on Range of Pistols to Pistoleers
I think pistols maximum range should be 35m, Carbines max range should be 50m and leave the Rifle max range at 64m.Not just "minuses" to hit at those ranges, no attack should be possible beyond it. This would help balance the rifleman/carbineer/pistoleer classes. Currently Pistoleers/Carbineers can duplicate Rifleman DPS at 64m which should be impossible.
My question is: Would a 35m maximum possible attack range be a "nerf" that Pistollers would not be able to live with?

35m basically makes us melee ... we'd just be kited in PvP like them. So yes, we wouldn't want that because we didn't sign up to be worthless melee in PvP.
If the Devs balance the speed issue -- right now a Master rifleman fires a T21 as fast as I can fire a Scout Blaster -- then perhaps they can look at accuracy as well. Instead of nerfing our range, they can just make it so accuracy is lower at far distances, which should balance things. If a Pistoleer can't hit as often from 64m they'll try to get close to 35m anyway, but being able to hit from 64m will keep us from being kited.
I like in theory, but in practice it makes us prime kite material. A carbineer would simply need to use the 15m distance to kite forever and a rifleman would be able to use posture changing suppression fire to keep us at bay indefinitely.
What would be better is to balance the accuracy mods such that only Marksmanship IV pistoleers would be hitting at 60m (and similarly highly accurate Cabineers and Riflemen at their non-ideal ranges). That would allow the distances to matter more and emphasize us to get close.
That's not how this game was designed.
You have AR, higher damage, and better pool targeting, and state effects.
We have better melee defense, accuracy, random HAM.
What we also need is "more speed", but we know what's up with that issues, and frankly, more "defense", but that's not working either.

now, that's not to say our REALLY good special attacks couldn't be 32m range, that would be fine by me, but they;d have to be better than the crap we currently have. I mean, we already stand no chance vs the "real" pistoleer, the BH pistol user, and smugglers have better specials. Why are we the gimp range profession? We don't like that much.
OK, how about reducing accuracy at 35-45m to -80 and greater than 45m to -100?

The same would go for Riflemen though. a 1 in 4 chance at close range. 50% at medium.

A-100 is without bonuses. So a higher level pistoleer would make up for the -100. Oh, and BTW, a rifleman is -80 at pointblank, a pistoleer is only -50 at60m range. (at least with a standard laser rifle and scout blaster.)
