A good idea is to have both a FWG5 (heat) a DX2 (acid) and a scoutblaster (energy) handy for when you need different types of damage.

I agree completely with MrMud on this. I would also suggest having a Tangle pistol and a striker pistol handy as well. I carry all 5 since they all have situations they can be used in. I'll admit that the Tangle and striker very very rarely get used, but the do see action, especially against some of the higher level droidekas on Lok.

I use SR Combat in place of Scout Blaster.

OK, Scout Blaster is higher DPS by numbers (hard to beat the 80-155 dmg 1.2 dly) BUT SR Combat is AP1. My SR Combat is a 90-155 dly 2.5 (bad slice ) but could have been a 90-155 2.1 with a regular slice...with AP1.

With Speed mods you get at higher lvl and the 1.0 cap, the SR Combat is MUCH better if mob get AR, which is often the case on Endor (I love to solo there, I like those Ewoks being my pets when attacked and I love to protect them).

Of course, if no AR...no question, Scout is better. but start to consider SR Combat as a "not that bad" pistol.

Philosopher - Great info as usual But I'd argue one point with you... You give the Scout pistol the energy crown, hands down. But I say that a DH17 gives it a serious run for its money, and D18s aren't that crappy.

A DH17 can be about 100-155 (maybe more?), with a speed of 1.8, which makes the DPS very similar to a top notch Scout, BUT, the DH17 is much more accurate (30 points higher at 64 meters). The Scout however has better HAMs.

D18s aren't too bad either. These can be better than 60-130 damage, and can be crafted, pre-slice, with speeds of 1.5 or maybe a little lower. The HAMs are almost as low as a Scout (11/26/11 on one I saw recently), and they are one of the most accurate pistols in the game (the one I have stats on here is only -5 at zero, is +39 at ideal (15m), and is only -60 at 64 meters (compare to -90 for a Scout)).

But that's the bane of Pistoleers... we have a lot of mediocre weapons to pick from, and nothing great. So we pack a Scout (or DH17, or D18), an FWG5, a DX2, and a Tangle pistol in our packs and try to get by by always using the best pistol for the situation (scout skills are important to allow you to see resists on your opponents).

I'm interested in upgrading my twenty eight point eight kilobaud internet connection to a one point five megabit fibre-optic T-1 line. Will you be able to provide an IP router that's compatable with my token ring ethernet LAN configuration?

I'm new to the Pistoleer ranks, but how does one see the resists on an opponent? I've pulled up "Examine" but am not sure what I'm looking for. Do higher scout skills show you more in the examine window? If so, which scout skills?

Thanks for answering this newb Pistoleer question.

Akoarum:

I'm not sure exactly what you need.

Master scout shows challenge level.

I surrendered that and I'm at Hunting IV now, and still see most info (hide and meat type, resists, whether or not the mob death blows, etc...).

I think that resists showed up at either Hunting III or Hunting IV, but I'm not positive. The Scout forum may have some good info on this.

There is also more that you can see with higher skill levels that you get as a Ranger. Rangers can see a mob's special abilities (blinds, poisons, etc...). Not sure if there is more additional info they get.

Hmmm. I'm only at Hunting I presently. I will work my way up that ladder and see if I can see any more. Thanks!

Isnt the SR Combat pistol have a max range of 48 or some such though? I dont recall .. but I did have one a while back and its max range was not 64.

Yes, the SR Combat and Tangle pistols have max ranges of 48 meters. All others have a max of 64 meters.

You also need to take into account HAM usage. While on a pure damage basis one gun might be better than another you are eventually restricted to damage output based on your HAM. Of course this is somewhat negligible for higher level medics, but many people only have basic. For instance I love my scatter to death but with 50+ action drain base (not including multiplier) I can pretty much empty out my entire action bar in 10-15 seconds. For that reason I try to opt to use my fwg as much as possible just because I can shoot many more times with specials before I need to stop/heal.
