Thread: Maxing Pistol Performance
How would everyone suggest I set up my pistol attacks to get the full effectivness and damage? I really want to make the best of pistoleer but being pretty new at it, completely unsure how.

A pet of some kind is always a smart idea.
Otherwise:
1) Kneel not prone
2) Watch the resists on the target -- always examine if you don't know it
3) Always DOT
4) PMD is still your friend, as is Suppression fire use each at least once per fight
5) Take Novice Medic -- healing action is invaluable
6) Warning shot is good -- but you may need to macro it with /peace if you get too fast with pistol speed
Is that what you're asking for?

The worst way to learn how to fight is behind a pet. If you can't handle the same targets I can without a pet, you haven't really understood combat.
While PvE mobs will fight the pet, in PvP, smart players go after the pet owner and then what are you going to do?

That does help, thanks. I guess I'm looking for strategies and techniques to help me out more. I wear composite armor alot and special shots take my action down so quick using that (action is set at 1100). I do have novice medic which does help a ton. I also solo alot which keeps me from taking down a lot of really big game and when I do group it is usually with only one or two others. I also have pets since I am a 2213 creature handler and they help a lot as well. I just wasn't sure if there is any type of hit combo I should use to take creatures down faster. Also, how is the best way to use pistoleer in pvp?

I'm a master smuggler and working on pistoleer (currently 0032). Ok first what you are gonna wanna do is take off your composite armor. you don't need it when fighting PvE. PvP of course is completely different. When fighting animals usually you are gonna be getting kinetic damage. Since this is the case i recommend a high quality set of advanced chitin. I have a set that is 60% resist to kinetic (don't wear this in PvP as the rest of the resists are like 8%.) Basically you only want to protect what is going to be hit. You wouldn't wear a firefighter rig in the ocean would you? no you'd wear scuba gear.
As for the string of attacks this I have found very useful. Now me being a smuggler i have a ranged KD which makes it much easier but use something to this effect.
KD or delay attack, DoTs (read: health shot 2 and then 1), another KD or delay (prefferably a different one from the first, as the delays are horrendous), target one HAM (read: body shot 2 then 1), then i drop the big guns, time for Last Ditch or Stopping Shot. At that point whatever I'm attacking is usually dead or close. If it's big game just use a few body shots and then repeat ( i use the body shots to make sure my next KD/delay will actually work).
Here's what my opening combo looks like;
low blow, hs2, hs1, panic shot, bs2, bs1, last ditch, double tap, stopping shot, bs2, bs1.......so on and so forth.
half those are smuggler attacks so you won't be able to use them but you get the general idea. as for PvP unless im with a group i just hit low blow, panic shot, and then last ditch as im burst running away. lol.
oh and i do hs2 before 1 because you usually get a bonus to to your attack if the target is knocked down.
ie; if hs2 normally does 500 damage i can get an 800 point bleed started if i do it right after low blow. then you hs1 and get 200-300 more damage and you got a 1-1.1k bleed going. that's nothing to laugh at (course in pvp this is like 250-275 point bleed, but again respectable.)
p.s. never seen one of my bleeds do that much damage in PvP. thanks and good night =D

Wait, so you just randomly pick from the attacks available? Do you really switch between targeted and non-targed shots, and stopping shot, doubletap, and last ditch? That would appear to not make any sense whatsoever.
Last night I had to kill a force mystic solo for a quest. So my strategy, go prone - bleed - bleed - PEACE - stand up - then run away, and let the guy die while I was well out of range.
Since your a CH, if your pet gets swarmed, by toggling through and bleeding each thing that's attacking him. Then hose down one target at a time. (or use fanshot on the whole herd)

Ok, if you go after a pet in PvP instead of the owner you are a moron!

"uhh yeah...thats what he said."
uhh no...that's not what he said. He said "smart players" go after the pets. I don't think you have to be smart to figure out to go for the owner with 900 HAM instead of the pet with 9,000 HAM but thanks for your interesting comment anyway.

Try reading what he originally said again.
PMD, suppression fire, warning shot... Hmmm... These do not sound familar to me at all... Thouhg I'm guessing PMD might be what I call pistol whip... Is so, I don't see how you would use it every fight... I'm usually pretty good at avoiding melee!
