Thread: Things I hate about Jump to Lightspeed

Now dont get me wrong, I like Jump to Lightspeed. The graphics rock, the interface is great (reminds me of Freelancer), and the mission variation is a hell of a lot better than it is on the ground. But there are a few things about JtL that irk me.

In no particular order...

1) There are Star Destroyers visiblein thesky above Naboo, but none in space around the planet. There should be at least one in the Naboo, Dathomir, and Endor systems at all times.

Naboo = Emperor and Vader

Dathomir = Massive Imperial blockade

Endor = DS2 construction site

2) There are NO capital ships whatsoeveroutside Kessel.last I checked, the Star Wars universewas populated with more than just starfighters and the occassional gunboat.

3) Missiles cannot be reloaded at space stations. It really pisses me off that I have to land just to load more missiles onto my ship.

4)Turrets have a limited field of fire which makes it impossible to fire at a single target until it dies. Anyone who has turreted on a TIE Aggressor will know what I mean. Turrets really need a full 360 degree range of motion to be useful.

5) Boosters don't burn long enough to matter. Most Tier 4 and Tier 5 ships will catch up to you regardless of whether you have a booster or not. I think boosters should burn about twice as long as they do now (~10 seconds just isnt long enough).

6) Aside from the shipwright profession, there is NOTHING that ties the space part of SWG to the ground part. Bounty Hunters should have to hunt marks in space, Smugglers should have to smuggle things to space stations, Droid Engineers should be able to make droids which can fly in space and perform different functions, you should be able to mine asteroids, etc... etc...

7) There is no content other than PvP once you reach master pilot. The entire expansion is what happens between novice pilot and master pilot, and then you either get to participate in one hit kill PvP battles orlament that you wasted $30 on an expansion that should have been better.

8) Hyperspace takes way too long. In the movie they just zip into hyperspace on a dime. If you want to balance out hyperspacing in the middle of combat, just have missiles that collapse hyperspace fields like in Freelancer. It's aseriouslyinconvenience to wait 45 seconds to enter hyperspace.

9) There are no new planets. I don't care if you didn't fill the existent planets with content yet, I paid my $15 and I want new planets. I want to go snowboarding on Hoth.

10) Collision handlingis stupid. You shouldnt fly through other ships. And when you collide with another ship, an asteroid, or any object ten times your size, you should explode in horrible agony, or at the very least take some form of damage. I never liked walking through other people or furniture on the ground either for that matter... makes me feel like a hologram.

11) There are no fuzzy dice.This is the most severe and egregious fault I can think of. damn it all to hell, I want my fuzzy dice.

Gotta dispute number 8.

Entire sequences in Episodes IV and V are built around the tension leading up to the jump to lightspeed. It takes several minutes for the calculations every time they jump. In the interim they are always dodging TIE's and Star Destroyers. No one ever just jumps "on a dime."

Perhaps you are thinking of Star Trek?

to number 1, they are on the otherside of the planet.

number 2, a SD and Mon Cal are in the deep space zone

and number 8, they did have to calculate the hyperspace jump before they went. they never went ok, hyperspace GO.

everything else, i agree 100%. especially that missle one.

Agree, except for endor, they aren't really there yet.

2) There are NO capital ships whatsoeveroutside Kessel.last I checked, the Star Wars universewas populated with more than just starfighters and the occassional gunboat.

Capital ships are all in deep space or the occasional shuttle or vette in kessel. Should be scattered more around though.

3) Missiles cannot be reloaded at space stations. It really pisses me off that I have to land just to load more missiles onto my ship.

Rebels can reload. but no one else can. sucks that you have to reload them yourself. maybe if they allowed it from the factional stations, it would be nice. Only thing is that you can't justify loading your own missiles in the ship until youcan actually land on the stations.

4)Turrets have a limited field of fire which makes it impossible to fire at a single target until it dies. Anyone who has turreted on a TIE Aggressor will know what I mean. Turrets really need a full 360 degree range of motion to be useful.

...it is a turret on the back of a ship. you can't have a 360 degree firing arc, you are limited by the ships design itself... unless you want to shoot the pilot in the back of the head. that is the point of the turret, to cover your rear arc.

5) Boosters don't burn long enough to matter. Most Tier 4 and Tier 5 ships will catch up to you regardless of whether you have a booster or not. I think boosters should burn about twice as long as they do now (~10 seconds just isnt long enough).

they are boosters, much like Nox, except it recharges. you can get some with longer burn times and others that recharge quicker.

6) Aside from the shipwright profession, there is NOTHING that ties the space part of SWG to the ground part. Bounty Hunters should have to hunt marks in space, Smugglers should have to smuggle things to space stations, Droid Engineers should be able to make droids which can fly in space and perform different functions, you should be able to mine asteroids, etc... etc...

that would alienate the people who did not purchase the expansion. ground smugglers would not have access to this new stuff, BH's would be stuck on the ground waiting for their mark to come down , miners would be forced to compete with resources they can't supply. DE's already can make the droids and computers (no big thing, but it is something)

7) There is no content other than PvP once you reach master pilot. The entire expansion is what happens between novice pilot and master pilot, and then you either get to participate in one hit kill PvP battles orlament that you wasted $30 on an expansion that should have been better.

...true... but there wasn't any master level content in SWG either, that was all added later.

8) Hyperspace takes way too long. In the movie they just zip into hyperspace on a dime. If you want to balance out hyperspacing in the middle of combat, just have missiles that collapse hyperspace fields like in Freelancer. It's aseriouslyinconvenience to wait 45 seconds to enter hyperspace.

...so when han solo said that hyperspace involves precise calculations, he was really just bluffing? it ain't like dusting crops boy...

9) There are no new planets. I don't care if you didn't fill the existent planets with content yet, I paid my $15 and I want new planets. I want to go snowboarding on Hoth.

...this expansion was the jump to lightspeed... you actually got twice as many areas to explore, granted no new ground planets, but that is what other expansions are for.

10) Collision handlingis stupid. You shouldnt fly through other ships. And when you collide with another ship, an asteroid, or any object ten times your size, you should explode in horrible agony, or at the very least take some form of damage. I never liked walking through other people or furniture on the ground either for that matter... makes me feel like a hologram.

collision damage would be a griefing tool. not to mention that with a lag spike, most people would be killed.

11) There are no fuzzy dice.This is the most severe and egregious fault I can think of. damn it all to hell, I want my fuzzy dice.

make chance cubes. or use holocrons. got a pair hangin over the dash on my yacht.

12. only thing i hate about JTL is the people who complain because they think it should be different.

the game is supposed to be about havingfun though... making me unnecessarily wait to enter hyperspace just detracts from the game in my opinion.

collision damage could work the same as PvP... you couldnt take colllision damage unless you were overt or in deep space. Then griefing wouldnt be an issue.

And hey, the way I see it, if im paying $15 a month for this game... they better damn well add $15 of content. Im paying for a service, and SoE needs to hold up thier end. So we'll see what new stuff gets added this month : )

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy. Without precise calculations, we'd fly right through a star, or bounce to close to a supernova, and that would end your trip real quick, wouldn't it."

You know, I am going to guess that you hate the fact that it actually takes time before you can use the high level items too, huh?

Just learn to acceot that they are not targetting the game just at what you want, and about trying to maintain a level of immersion as well. Since the movies show that it takes time to jump to hyperspace - they put it in.

#7.. Okay, I got master... now what?! PvP is a joke in my opinion, there are so many things they could easily add to keep a pilot having fun after master. Missions! they were fun, let there be a pilot mission term, or NPC's that give out quests, or why not a space based theme park? I think race tracks would be awsome, with a lot of debris in the way. Only real use I get out of JTL now is not having to wait for shuttle.

Of course I didnt mention it. this thread is for things I HATE about JtL. Not things I like.

Maybe you don't agree with the same issues as me, but I think almost everyone agrees that this expansion was a severe disappointment.
