I love JTL, it's awesome, it's fun, the graphics rock and it's a step in the right direction, but there are concerns.
To the readers that just want to post to this thread to say I'm whining please don't reply. If you can't be constructive don't reply.
I'm not one to normally complain (at least not publicly), but when I do it's for a good reason. I didn't get to test in beta long enough to have these issues become evident to me. Now that I'm playing the game here are some of my concerns. It seems like there are other issues that people have voiced their opinions, including this, but this is my pet peeve.
1) PVP is ridiculous.
A) I have a ship that has shields with 2433 hp and 2433 armor, yet I get shot bya tier 1 starter ship and I'm dead in6 quick shots (tested this in duel). I go and let a tier 1 NPC ship just have at me and it takes over 50 (I lost count around 40) shots to kill me. I go after a tier 1 ship with my 2632 min 3642 max guns a blazing and it takes about 5 good shots to kill him. I go after a tier 5 ship with the same guns and I can't even tell you how many shots it took because I kept losing count and it felt like it took forever due to targeting issues. Average of about 3 minutes.
B) If you get caught in a PVP zone while fighting a NPC, another player can zip in and kill you before you even know what happened. This has happened to me about 20 times while trying to do my master mission. There is absolutely no chance for defending yourself.
C) When I know or suspect that a PC is near me I cannot easily change my targeting to the new target. Hitting TAB only cycles to the closest target. If a PC is 200 meters out and my target is still within 100 meters I can't easily cycle to the PC who is now in range to kill me and poses the greater threat.
D) While grouped with people that are of opposing factions, but have a common purpose (ie: guild members) you can still target them and kill them. This poses a problem when in combat with multiple targets and you are crossing the fire of a group member or they cross your fire unexpectedly. Yes that's a problem in real life, in real combat, friend or foe, but then communication and field of vision is a lot better too. This is where (A) again is a problem because now you probably just killed someone that you are trying to assist or is assisting you.
E) I don't know if mastering pilot isa goal by SOE to limit, but you've donea damn good job of doing it. Requiring the master pilot to fend for him/herself in PVP is understandable, but it's becoming increasingly difficult. The master-to-be has togo to Kesselanddefend him/herself 2 times against PVP and tier 5 ships. With more and more people trying to reach this covetted position it has become a griefer's paradise. After more then 50 trips (trying to help others get their master license) to Kessel I've given up. I've been within 2-9 kills more then a dozen times now, just to be griefed by some PC pilot that sees an opportunity make life miserable for someone other then themselves, all because I don't have a chance to defend myself.
2) Targeting: What the?? Today's technology in our country's military air forces is far more superior then this. Isn't this supposed to be asociety that has far surpassed us technically? Even though this wasa long time ago in a galaxy far, far away?
A) While attempting to properly target my objective, I find that I have to find some spot somewhere between the reticle and the starship. It's always different, depending on the speed of the ship I'm trying to target. A proper targeting system takes the speed of the target, the distance to the target, and the speed of the ship you're flying, to properly access where the projectile will collide with the target. Using this calculation the HUD displays where the pilot has to be lined up in order to make akill. The system doesn't tell the pilot "Ok line up somewhere between here and your target to hit it." I have a better chance of targeting a car moving45 mph and hitting it with a snowball from on top of a hill, 150 ft from the road, while wearing gloves and standing on ice. I've played online aerial combat simulators that doa better job and havehigher graphical detail (ie : IAF).
B) What's up with the merry-go-round style of combat? I find it rather boring that the AI just wants to fly circles around you while you try to shoot it down. Targeting plays into this because now you're trying to maintain a constant LOS on a spot somewhere between your reticle and target that you have no true reference to.
3) The turning radius of these NPC ships vs PC ships is mind blowing. NPC ships can be flying at almost full throttle and make a u-turn coming straight back at you while you have to reduce to 1/2 throttle. By the time you make your u-turn the ship you're trying to target has alread started on it's way back to you with lasers flaring. Now granted there are some NPC ships, lower tier ones, that can't do that, but I've watched (from a distance) similar tier 5 ships (NPC vs PC) combat each other and the NPC can out turnthe PC every time.
4)I get a serious lag spike every time I get a kill that sendsa 2 line system messageto my screen. I am running a PC with 1GB of RAM and 2GB ofVM yet it seems like it can't handle a simple 2 line text message showing up on my screen. I don't have a problem with when someone sends me a tell with a lot more characters in it. System messages don't go to the chat window unless it's to tell you how much xp you got, credits you received or item you looted. I find it extremely annoying that I just got this kill that may or may not have ended my mission and because I lagged the message is on my screen for about 1 second and I get a chance to read 5 or 6 words of it.

Great Post. At least someone understands the problem of griefing that is going to start spiraling out of control.
