Thread: Good bye SWG.

The poor programming with the new Jump to Lightspeed release (The update for that release made it impossible for us to move or communicate in game for over a week. The lack of being able to play cost us 6 harvesters and a factory for lack of maintenance.)
Poor programming indeed. It takes them MONTHS to come out with new content, and when it does come out, it's all bugged and causes mass hysteria. JTL is also a joke. What the heck are you supposed to do when you master the piloting profession. Good luck out there in the real world. I'll see if I can stick out a few more months to see if there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I love you armchair developers who think it is poor programming. I would wager that 99% of you people who claim the devs are using poor programming couldn't code a simple math program yourself. SWG is an immense game and very impressive in the least.
I myself have no clue how to program and I think the devs are doing a great job.

Really, you fanboi apologists are off the deep end. If something in the game doesn't work, and it isn't programing, then what is it? Gremlins?
do you crucify the kicker when he hitsa bad kick? well, they do in soccer matches... but that is beside the point.
yes, they are programming issues, but when something breaks or doesn't work properly, it's not as simple as replacing the place holder (laces out!!!) you have to dive into thousands of line of code just to find what is causing what, and you have no idea that when you fix something, you may or may not fix something else.
if anything, i would blame the designers of the game, not the people who code it.

You're right that the devs do deserve more of the blame, but the coders are far from blameless themselves. Either way I agree that complaining about bugs is probably counter-productive, at least when it devolves to pointless whining. However, I was responding to a previous posters absurd assertion that we shouldn't critize the broken elements in SWG.
people have killed soccer players for less...
i think the guy you were responding to was saying to not blame the programmers. not their fault the code is faulty, this isn't something you can check in a manual or something. it's like blaming the painter because the picture doesn't come out the way that you think it should. they can go back and fix it (like they have been doing) but we can't expect it to be perfect everytime.

Whoa, I'm not trying to incite a flame war here so don't take it as such, but what are you talking about? Does the game really crash for you everytime you click something?
This game has issues but they have all been content and story based for me (yeah um...jedis everywhere? Terrible) but I can say that I've never had an issue with the actual game crashing or breaking on me, and I've been around a while albeit in bursts. I've had this game cranked to the max even using volumetric shadows since day one and have maybe three crash logs total and those from patch day or user error on my end.
I read threads like this one and just shake my head. Are these problems rampant and I've just been lucky? I would be very upset if my macros re-set and thats the least of this thread originators issues. It's terrible thatthose things happened toyou, truly. Its obviousyou feel strongly and the best thing you can do is put your money where your mouth is by quitting (which is obviously what your doing). I wish you luck in whatever game you and your family turn tonext. Bewarehowever, I've been playing MMO's since Meridian 59 and I can tellyou the only the constant with all of them, is trouble.
Be well!
