Thread: Negative Effects of Reactor Overloading?

I was wondering if there were any negative side effects to loading your ship with more energy than it's currently capable of producing. Recently I overloaded my reactor and took off into space but didn't really notice any change in my ship's performance. Am I missing something?

With engine overload, I notice a loss in armor points on my engine, but the hitpoints stay the same.

It's obvious the negative ramifications. You could overload your engine/reactor down to 1.0/1.0 armor, but as soon as your main shielding and armor is worn out, your weakened component is going to get cooked faster than a crawfish in a New Orleans kitchen.

Strangely enough, though - I notice absolutely no difference when I use weapon overload. It doesn't seem to effect my weapon's health at all.

Damages your reactor each time you use the command. All the overload commands damage the part each time the command is triggered. The amount is relatively minor(about 10 hp worth for an overload 3). But,each time you repair damage you get 10% decay on a part. So, the result is you end up shortening the lifespan of the part.
