I am sure that this is probably the one millionth time this post has been made and since I dont frequent the boards as much I will try to make this one at least a constructive one. I have several ideas on this particular topic, that I think might work for all of us. Now some of the things that I agree with in regards to mastering the pilot prof. 1) grouping a must, 2) pvp zones (but only for faction pilots) 3) intense and very very very difficult.
I believe that the master lvl mission should be one that requires you to group up. Period. This is a MMO, interacting with people is part of the fun. Alot of folks have that alpha male or "lone wolf" thing goin on, and I am included in that, but if you open your mind up and stretch out there you might just find that there are some very cool and interesting people that play this game. Forcing interaction with intense missions is a great idea and enhances gameplay, and I think the devs got this part right.
Now onto PvPzones, this for me is where things turn alittle sour. I am all for PvP, when done right in an MMO can be some of the most fun you will ever have in the gaming world. JTL is FAR from being right tho. In the piloting world your skills as a "flier" come into play as well as your aim. Not in JTL, in every PvP encounter that I have had it has boiled down to who gets the first shot wins but I really think that this is altogether a different post so I will spare readers the time here. Forcing players into PvP is a bad idea. Lets face it not everyone likes the rush and the sensation of hunting someone down or being hunted its not for everyone but making them participate or play in the weeeee hours of themorning to avoid it is wrong. There are WAY more creative ways to make missions difficult then throwing them into a free for all zones. Rebel and Imperial pilots on the other hand it makes sense to have them go out there and squad up and duke it out, but for neutrals (and most ppl signed up neut. to avoid pvp entirely) there is no reason for it. Make neutrals board a cap. ship while his group members are engaging it and sneak some loot off and then hightail it outta there, have them haul that thing around all the while massive ambushes of gunships and fighters tryin to stop you, make it along mission too. Really for me having the master mission feel more like what I am masteringis what I want. Neutral pilots should feel like they are neutral, they should feel like smugglers when they are done, if they are rsf they should feel like cops, Corsec then they should feel like bad cops. I think that for Imps and Rebs we should setup a Pilot Stat page, that tracks kills made in PvP zones, tracks weap accuracy and missile accuracy etc. etc. and each day give out title awards to skilled pilots and have that title appear above their name in space. If something like that was in place then ppl would be amped up to get out there and mix it up and dogfight, gun forsomeones title. Lots of things that the Devs can do here with that.
Overall I like JTL and think it was done very well. I enjoy the challenge of the missions and look forward to stepping it up to try and make master. I just thought that at face value the master mission dont make you feel like you have mastered what you have set out to master. Imagination and creativity are lacking for me in them. I hope you readers enjoyed this post, if not please feel free to flame and voice your opinions, you are entitled to them.
Hasta,
