Thread: Controversial through but isn't JTL... a little boring?

OK, OK. I'm only Tier 2 so far and maybe there's a lot of good content to come but...

...While the space environments look pretty good - they're not as good as those in Privateer or even Freelancer

...It's so dark, I can't even see my little Tie whizzing around

...I only seem able to get missions from my squadron trainer and no-one else (weren't we promised over 300 JTL missions?)

...I can't interact with any NPCs in space

...I haven't found any actual space stations that I can dock with and enter

...I can't talk to or interact with NPCs in space

...The maps, the radar and the HUD are complex or at least anti-intuitive

...Decay is outrageously fast

Am I misunderstanding a lot or is it that JTL is actually rather dull? Maybe the good stuff is just round the corner, just one box away.... Like Jedi.

Well, thanks for the stars or whatever, but my real question is - is there more to JTL than I've outlined? I don't mean to dis the game but if you do love it, what more can I expect to make me love it too?

Don't know about Privateer but I think the graphics are far superior to Freelancer.

This has to do with your game settings and has nothing to do with what the game actually looks like. Go to "Options" in game and play with those. I think your opinion would change a bit.

...I only seem able to get missions from my squadron trainer and no-one else (weren't we promised over 300 JTL missions?)

Since you mention you are only tier 2 you haven't gone far enough in game. There are NPC in game that give missions that are not part of the story arc and are similar to the ground game mission terminals.

...I can't interact with any NPCs in space

Actually, you are if you are doing missions. Why would you need to beyond that?

...I haven't found any actual space stations that I can dock with and enter

This was never never never promised to be ingame. The Devs have said when asked "maybe later".

...I can't talk to or interact with NPCs in space

Actually, you are if you are doing missions. Why would you need to beyond that? Isn't this arepeat?

...The maps, the radar and the HUD are complex or at least anti-intuitive

This has to be a personal thing because I find them very easy and intuitive. Did you read the game instructions or follow the tutorial?

...Decay is outrageously fast

On some items I might agree. But, since loot seems relatively plentiful you won't run of items in your ship. My only problem is the price Shipwrights tend to charge for Blueprints. Otherwise, it is about right regarding decay. Remember, this is not a single player "shoot-em-up" and you are in a "living" economy. Therefore, and this has been beaten to death elsewhere, decay is a requirement to keep the economy running.

If you are going into JTL with the single player mentality then I would say you will make a lot of rash judgements because of what you "expect" from a single player game. JTL is a step apart for Freelancer, Xwing Alliance,.....(insert shooter here).

Thank you. Nice clear answer.

I guess then, unless you tell me otherwise, that this is just a very simple shoot-'em up space game.

I have to agree on some points made by Dridernce ... I am enjoying JTL and i have been since Beta .

..... That being said I have to agree about the lack of content .... And lack of interactions .

It "feels" too much like a simple shooter ... and even old shooters (X-Wing etc ... ) seemed to have more complex missions to make .

I am currently filling tier 4 boxes and sorry to say space feels 'empty"

You can inspect and even docks ships ... and they DO have cargo sometimes you can get but it is pointless and won't bring you anything .... There is a real lack of continuity between ground game and space game in my humble opinion . The space seems "dead" besides the few spawns spots and instanced missions. No interaction with other ships besides shooting them until they dead . It's a fun shooter yes ...... But I am not playing SWG to have a fps game ... And expecting a bit more interactions with environment.

IA is lacking as tier 4 are turning circles like tier 2 .... Only difference is they have better lasers and armor .

And again no flaming intended .. I am enjoying JTL and will be playing it a while . I just wish there was more to discover.

Do you know where to find a list of non-trainer NPCs that give space missions by any chance?
And are these missions more in-line with duty missions, or are they more in-line with non-duty missions? Also, are there any other missions like attack a Stardestroyer or comandeer a space station?

This is a good post too. Technically, this game runs very smoothly. Graphically, well, I'd hoped for a little more- but it's still of a high quality. However, if as the above poster states 'This is all there is' in terms of content, I can see myself not being fascinated by JTL for long.

Yes, are there missions like these coming up? I am grinding away solidly - and will continue to do so - but I'd just like to know if there is a little variety as I move forward. Just askin'.

I believe he is alluding to the amount of stuff in space. In Freelancer you can't go very far without being under attack or going through some sort of space structure(i.e. nebula). I totally agree with you on this point, in beta, a group of us were actively complaining or capaigning against the desolate lonely feel of the space sectors. The graphics themselves are great and far superior to many space games, but the content in space, i.e. ships zooming around, npc v npc battles, npc v pc battles, and pc v pc battles, as well as asteroid belts, nebuli(spelling), etc are very sparse in many many places completing this feeling of loneliness.

Im really enjoying JTL it has created a star wars feel which at present is very much lacking on the ground game.

But more stuff = more lag, which is not so good for online FPS games.
