Ok. Now there are a few things wrong with the current JTL system.

I spent 15 minutes, flying in circles with my Y wing, trying to destroy a couple of TIE Fighters. Something seriouly needs to be done to change this. Dogfights should NOT consist of an NPC flying in circles until you manage to destroy it. Boring/Lame. Secondly, the "Tier" system is completely off kilter. Why, in god's name, would you place a starship in the tier 2 position that cannot keep up with its tier 2 NPC it will have to go up against in Tier 2 missions? This makes absolutely no sense. Keeping up with a TIE fighter in a Y-Wing?!! Come on now. Who was the genius behind that one? Isn't a Y Wing used for bombing and heavy weapons assaults, not dogfighting? And another thing that pissed me off to no end was that after spending about 1/2 hour destroying Tie fighters that were attacking my hijacked shuttle, I had 3 Tier 4 ships come from out of nowhere and hijack my mission, and destroying my mission objective. Brilliant guys...just brilliant. Please tell me what's wrong with this picture and why this is like this.

Are you trying to follow the TIEs at full speed? Don't. Reduce your speed to half, and you'll maneuver much better and have a much better chance of hitting them. It takes practice, but you can take out a TIE in seconds.

I responded to your other post as well.

It sounds like the problem is your tactics. The Y-Wing maneuvers best at half speed. So, I'd recommend reducing speed for one.

Second, try rolling the fighter so that your target is either moving side to side or up or down. Its much easier to keep them recticle on target if you don't have to go diagonal.

Once you practice this, you'll find the TIE's aren't so tough.

Bummer about the level three and four TIE's. Not much you can do about that. It will happen from time to time.

1/2 speed? I find the best combo is 2/3 speed. Their is a button that will auto kill your engines to this I believe... I just use my Joystick Throttle.

Some enemies will fly in a circle, because they are trying to get behind you. Others will take you head on and some will boost away then turn and attack.

Tier 1 and 2 AI is stupid to help player get past the easier stages.

There's a common misapprehension that higher tier equates to better ship. This is not necessarily true. If you're having difficulty in dogfights with Y -wing, then get yourself a souped up, tricked out z95. Many pilots have been able to complete tier 2 in this way. Tier 3 might be tricky in a z95 though, but at that point you have your Longprobe with it's two foreward guns for massive firepower.

The Y-Wing was never meant to be a manuverable ship. It has always been described as a slow moving, clunky ship with massive armor and firepower. Your typical space-semi-truck with a rocket launcher.

Thanks for the tips.

Any words on the Tier 4 Interceptors hijacking my mission? Or doesn't that happen too often?
