y-wing = 2 people

Y-Wing requires a gunner to use the second gun, Longprobe links both guns forward so the pilot has double firepower.

The longprobe has around 170k mass and is the only ship until Master where you can equip the higher level stuff without sacrificing abilities.
Even the X-Wing has only 98k mass

you're better off just forgetting the y-wing altogether...it's way to slow and sluggish. i just slapped some good engines and guns into a z-95, and it's great. speed and manueverbility are awesome. keep your y-wing around for missions where you have to take down something with turrets, though, cause you'll need the extra armor and shields.

Actually the y-wing is great, you just have to drop to 1/3rd throttle to turn, at that throttle it turns faster than a tie fighter

Well I am a Freelancer Pilot (yeah yeah we get inferior stuff, at least you know we are either clueless or hardcore when you see us
) so I dont know the JtL game differences but according to SE fluff the Longprobe is a Y-Wing equipped with better sensors and more long range capability, making it a recon craft.

LOL -- Heres my trying everything possible to get my 2nd gun to work on my Y-Wing. never knew you needed a co-pilot
So, would my 2nd pilot need the certificate for the Y-Wing to be my co-pilot ?
This also applies to things such as the YT-1300 -- to be able to get into one as a passenger / Turret would I need the certificate ?? I hope not because Luke never had one and he done well for himself
Thanks

If you bring a gunner to your Y-wing it can be any body. The co-pilot can use any gun. A imp riding gunner in a rebel ship can shoot imps.

Gunners can be anyone with JTL enabled, dont even need to be a pilot. Allthough if your in a nova/YT/Deci, it can be usefull having the cert as the owner can get up to go and repair stuff and someone else can sit in his seat. The 2 turret and the co pilotseat need no cert (allthough the co piot seat is pretty pointless for someone with no specials)

The difference:
Y Wing:
1 hardpoint
1 Turret (gunner required )
1 missle
140K mass
Y wing Longprobe:
2 hardpoints
2 missle's
170K mass
Slighly less maneuverable than a Y wing (just when you thoguht a ship couldnt be anymore boat like!
