Its funny to watch people kill everything in the game EXCEPT for awings because they are near impossible to hit. PLUS they are majorly annoying. Its not worth chasing them because it takes 3 times as long to kill them as it does a normal craft. So with that in mind you can get 3 times the exp if you just dont kill them, which is what no one does. Something needs to be done because I just walk away when I see them

I agree. They make impossible manouvres too. And with my rubberbanding problem (Devs, please look into this! Quite a few people, amazingly with the same motherboard, are having this problem!) its dang-near impossible to even chase them.

I'm no ace at space flight sims, but I have no trouble killing A wings, you just need to get travelling at the right speed to keep on them and find the right lead to keep hitting them.

BTW... When do you find time to play the game? you seem to spend all your time on the forums moaning about it.

Yeah, im a reb, so have no Idea how hard it is to hit a npc A-wing, but as far as flying it, its at a good where its at, fast yes but Cant even put armor on mine, have to have descent guns, shields etc.

I'd suggest trying a privateer profession for a short while.

I did rebel, privateer and imperial in beta and I'm a privateer on live. So I can attack pretty much everything currently.

A-Wings are a challenge, but so are many of the imperial ships as well. It may not seem like it when you are flying one and the AI is pounding on you, but even an interceptor is a pretty shaky little fighter to chase.

The whole logic behind an A-Wing is "Hey! Who the hell needs good shields or weapons if they can't hit you?"

So, Nerfing the A-Wing's manuverability would more or less make it a gimp, unless it's Mass and Laser hardpoints were increased, but that'd make it feel more like the X-Wing, Which it is not.

Besides that, I have no troubleblasting A-Wings with my TIE Bomber - In other words, It's not the A-Wing that's overpowered, it's the Pilot that sucks.

I haven't had a problem killing Tier 4 and Tier 5 A-Wings in a TIE Interceptor (currently mired at 3332 thanks to an extremely b*tchy queen in her extremely b*tchy gunboat). I just shopped around and got a damn fine low-mass L4 engine REed with 72+ speed and turning attributes that'd make a BMW blush and chuckle. All I can say is: you'd be *very, VERY* surprised at what some people put on the bazaar now. I intend to make like a bandit while I can before people realize what they're selling doesn't SUCK all the time.

The trick is to roll into the position your craft is the most agile in (merely sliding flatly along the x-axis is usually the *least* effective), and exploit it. If you're at a 30-45 degree angle and putting force into the turn, your "yaw" modifier kicks in and if it's over 65, you'll find yourself turning with or even inside the A-Wing.

Failing that, a lot of times the problem is oversteer that gets muted out by the A-Wing's turning radius - decrease your throttle (to around 75-85%) and cut off some of yours when they pass in front of your nose. You'll retain your manueverability (anything under 60-65% seems to add an aire of 'sluggishness'), but you'll put more distance between you and the target, allowing for a good amount of time in optimal firing range.

Speed might be life in aerial dogfighting, but in this game, where ships go from 0-900kph in three seconds and the speed is constant despite the exertion, the rule doesn't apply.

Additionally, I've found that placing the "pipper" (the little leading crosshairs) into the lead indicator on an A-Wing results in a lot of misses. Put the pipper a little further ahead of the lead indicator and you should hit a lot more.

Went on to get the specs off my engine....

It's based primarily off of J-77 Event Horizons (*NOT* the Light variants) and (warning: long name) Koensayr Enhanced Dual Small Ionjet Engines (now I'll never find any others). The "Enhanced" part is key, as the ones without this designation aren't very remarkable.

The stats on my REed are:

3688 mass
300 Pitch Accel Rate
300 Yaw Accel Rate
150 Roll Accel Rate
66.0 Pitch Rate Max
65.2 Yaw Rate Max
63.4 Roll Rate Max
72.7 Speed

Tier 4 and 5 A-Wings can outrun me EXCEPT in cases when I have a booster equipped, which can take me almost to 1000kph but hurts my turn radius. They can't outturn me if I'm Johnny-On-The-Throttle, though.

EDIT: The Interceptor's hidden mods accent this engine, as well.

Heres a little trick against A Wing: ALWAYS target the Engine(or Reactor). When you just try to destroy the whole ship while its still moving it takes longer. i always go for the Engine and when its disabled i move to the next Target till all of them are disabled, then i finish them off. Works great.
