Thread: Is this lag or my machine? Help wanted please.

For the last couple of weeks, SWG has been acting really weird. It seems jerky as hell and my framerate wobbles around between 3 and 30 fps, this is both in space and on the ground.
When in space, and turning my ship it runs smooth for about 2 seconds, seems to pause for half a second and then smooth for two, pause etc etc.

I've got the latest drivers for my vid card - that didn't help. I turned down all the game graphics options to the absolute minimum (including the launchpad options) and the thing is still the same. I've also defragged my hard disk and wiped any spyware that might have been lurking around. No effect.

I'm beginning to think that this is persistant lag rather than my machine which can usually handle WAY more than this with no effort at all.

Any clues please guys?

This thing ran sweet as a nut until a couple of weeks ago.

I'm having the same problem here.

My loadout:

2x (dual) Pentium 4 Xeon 3.2 Ghz

1024 MB RAM

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256 MBDDR2

On the ground, my problem is the area around starport (especially Theed) where there are 10 zillion people in the area.

In space, it gets jerky some time even when there isn't a lot on the screen. I was looking at the bandwidth being sucked up and I'm wonder if that's the cause.

The devs said JtL would use less bandwidth since space is simpler, but I think they're wrong.

On the ground I use between 0.4 to 1.1 mb/s with most of my time spent in the lower range. In space, I'm sucking up between 1.1 and 2.4 mb/s with most of my time hovering around 1.6 mb/s and most of my combat around 2.1 mb/s.

My guess, is that it's not hardware but severe ineffeciency on the part of the software.
