Thread: Privateer Experience?

I'm a 1/1/1/1 Privateer. I guess I completed the Tier 1 quests too soon. I'm doing missions for the girl in the Lucky Despot, but the only one I can complete is the escort mission. The endless waves of Tier 2 Black Suns mission is too hard. They fly circles around my ship. I have a Dunelizard with all the best components I can use. Is there another place to get missions so I can get enough experience to take Tier 2 ships?

Should I keep doing the escort mission? Or will that put me up to the Tier 3 quests too soon and make me even more behind?

Just keep killing what you can to gain exp. You don't need to complete the missions right away, you can end the duty missions any time you want. Just exp up to get the next ship then pop in components and you'll be able to take on the other missions. Also, are you using looted components? I'm a SW and pilot so I know that my crafted items are much better than the looted crap I've gotten. Maybe you need some stronger guns from a good shipwright. Also, if you don't know how to use your droid, you need to learn fast. Using droid abilities and special commands can help you out a lot.

Yeah I just don't know where to go to gain experience.
I'm using crafted components. The best I can use, according to the shipwright.
The guns are alright, it's the speed and manueverability that sucks. As soon as a Tier 2 get's behind me, I'm dead.
I'll try using a droid. I don't really have any, just probots which carry some of my clothes around for me.
Should I get any special kind of droid?

I am not using a droid yet ... i think i will wait until my master .. i am fine this way.

The best way to gain xp is grouping up... you have guild mates that you can join?

You only need to get one hit on a mob to get the xp.

I just returned from a duty tier IV mission, gave me 1mill xp in 2hours... I brought

two guild mates with me. Both 1211 in there Z95 (we are rebel pilots) .. so their

cap was 200k. By ne reason those black suns were only aggroing me, so they

were ok in their ships... just shooting my target, then i destroy and we both get xp.

then i helped them with their tier 2 missions and they got up to 2222 in no time.

it was more fun, then i ever had on ground ... all i can say: "PEOPLE group up and

help each other and you'll have a blast in jtl !!!"

I just got pecked to death by a Tier 1 Commerce Raider. Nothing I could do. My ship is too slow.
Kinda frustrating when you can't even train 90 points at a time on the easiest enemies there are.

For rebel ships you have to cut your engines to half, to turn fast, expect with z95 ... maybe that helps you

For Freelancers, dont upgrade to the Dunelizard so fast. Trick your Scyk out with the best shields, gunsand engine you can. Forget about the droid interface and armor over 200hp right now - you fly so fast you only take one or two shots at a time, which your shields can handle. Group and hang out at The Void (Corellia system) and send all those Black Sun and Hutt ships to hell - more targets than you know what to do with. When you get up to Tier 4 and 5 components (stuff the Scyk can't handle), then the Dunelizard becomes a more viable ship. You'll still want yer Scyk to tackle anything fast, like A-wings or TIE Interceptors/Advanced, etc.

How about a Kihraxz? The light Black Sun fighter. Are they as fast as Scyks?

Faster in that you can place a bigger engine into it.

Alright not counting better components, light ships are faster right?

Generally that might be considered true, but I am a fan of the heavy ship stuffed with the best of everything and just being a better pilot than my enemy. On Tempest I have a kimo heavy hutt fighter with 90k mass and looted 71.7speed/5k mass engine and devastating player made weaps, shields and armor. I soloed corsec 3/3/2/2 dath mission last night and I certainly need every bit of that power. Got my 92 speed reward engine but at 13k mass...haven't figured out where to put it!

One word: THROTTLE. Use it A LOT. You can't really run and avoid fire in jtl. If something is shooting at your 6, your best bet is to make sure youadjust to agood turning speed and do a 180 and confront the new threat. Fire on this/these targets, approaching them with some decent speed, slow to turn speed when they get near and 180 as they pass and they are now your new target till they are dead or someone else gets a shot or two in on you, at which point you will start the 'turn and confront' manuver all over again.

Get used to doing this, even when you think only a few more shots will kill that current target, 'cause a couple of enemy missiles up your wazoo just might kill you. Use the 'r' when doing this 'turn and confront' manuver which gives you the last ship that hit you.

If I am going to let a ship hit me for long at all, it's going to be on my front shields with me shoving plasma bombs right back at 'em!!!

They are slightyly faster, and much more highly manouverable. The engine i have for example does 875 top speed in a dunelizzard, and drops to 820 in a heavy Rhixzyrk chassis. Not a very percieveable difference... but the manouvering difference is huge. The light blacksun is a good choice, its very manouverable, has a much better mass than the scyck, and it looks pretty good too.

And yes you got to play with your throttle, if you got outmanouvered by a commerce raider you must have had a very poor truning rate engine,

Heres what i advise, log on to the bazaar and look for a level 2mon calamari enhanced light engine, i beleive it is, there are usualy tons of them. They have stats usualy of about 50+ to all manouvering and to speed. They are reverse engineering level 2, so grab 2 of them of similar quality and get them reverse engineered by a shipwright. This is what i did on my imperial pilot and i ended up with an engine with 60's across the board to all the manouvering stats and a 57 speed.

Also... you may try doing the same thing witha level 2 J77 Event horizon, its comparable in performance. and usualy readily available on the bazaar.

Stay FAR away fromn crafted engines, they are slow heavy and overpriced.
