Thread: does your crosshairs over-lead your target?

Mine has been doing this off and on. Today the warping of enemies wasn't really present, but my crosshairs were way overleading my targets. Then I logged in later and the warping was so freaking bad on the same mission that i couldnt even get a chance to see if the crosshairs were on target.

Is this a known issue? I havent seen any posts about it, the warping yes, the inaccurate crosshairs, no.

Read the first 4 replies and I see what you are saying about it being a "guide" but it wasn't until a week or so after release that i started having the "overleading" problem. Until then no matter how far away I was, what speed I was going, what directions either craft was heading, that "targeter" was alway dead on.

Plus if It is "just a guide", then what's the point of it being there at all? I can see perfectly fine which way the ship is moving and where my constant blaster fire is in relation to it, so why bother placing a useless"targeter" there to make me miss? If we have to "eyeball" it, we certainly don't need a bogus reticle.

I dunno. Anyone submitted a ticket about this? If so what's the deal?I am going to, once I log on after work.

I did a couple missions today. I had both the warping and over-leading problems. I can deal with the over-leading. I just find a spot between the crosshairs and the target until I start hitting it. The warping is a real pain. I hate it when I start hitting the target and it takes no damage - then all the sudden its 200-300m further away than it was before. Some days the warping isn't as bad but I've noticed the over-leading happens alot.

Two things I noticed right away about the crosshairs

1) It's not accurate overall, changes a little with different targets.

For example If I'm fighting most freelance type ships I find the best aiming spot is about a quarter inch behind the crosshairs, if I'm fighting X-wings the best spot is right at the trailing edge of the crosshairs, if I'm fighting A-wings the best spot is just a hair behind the center dot.

2) The targeting system seems as though it fails to calculate some factor, perhaps closure speed or relative direction, in certain situations most notably when on a nearly 90 degree heading and close to a target you seem to have to hit a spot half way between the crosshairs and the target.

Finally ... what is the deal with A-wings? ... I know they're real small and such, but I've watched my shots pass through them and not get a hit.

Yeah... I fly an A-Wing in 3rd person view and I have seen some amazing misses in PvP... shots going over the top and bottom of my ship at the same time... But I also have to say I love the speed and agility of the ship overall I have no shields or armor hardly at all on this ship(Level 4) and dumped everything into Engines, Boosters, Weapon Capacitor and my Blasters(all of 65k of mass)

as far as the Target Lead the biggest thing I have noticed is in the Teir 4 Black Sun ships... I am right on their tail and not firing at the lead at all but my crosshairs are directly on the target even on hard 180 turns... now at distances of 100m I am aiming about 1/2 the way between the lead and the ship...

The lead is just a guide, you need to adjust, youll find that very fast/manouverable ships will outturn the lead as it only calculates where the ship would be if it kept going. in these cases youll need to aim slightly to the side closer to the ship, or maybe even inbetween the lead and the ship. Also if a ship is puling up or diving you need to adjust approriately, usually moving the reticle to the top or bottom extremes of the lead is enough. It would be kinda easy (not that it isnt easy enough allready) if all you had to do is click on the dot.

Maybe they nerfed it as they realised how childishly easy having an exact lead would make the game. The leads in SW Flight sims have never been bang on. By the way, you also need to adjust for your ships spread, the most notable being B Wings, youll find that the spread on them is so wide that if you try and shoot small fighters bang on the lead your shots will miss on all sides of your target. If your weapons are slung under the cockpit you need to aim slightly high, if they are on the sides you need to lead or trail slightly. For example your best bet in the X Wing is to allways roll untill your wings you are turning left or right to catch your target, this way your guns are in line with your target rather than shooting past it on either side.

One thing I have noticed though, the Firesprays reticle adjusts for range. I dunno wether this is a special feature of the FS or if all underslung weaponed ships have this, but your crosshair will actually move depending on the range of your target, which is rather nice.

Finally, if you think its better that the lead wasnt there at all, feel free to fight without targeting, youll realise its much more helpfull than you think.

If it's going really fast, it does.
