During beta it was generally assumed that "duty missions" where a pretty much endless supply of ships to fight. (at least up until the last week, which I did not play)

Today I was playing trying to get some exp for teir 2 boxes and was out running a duty mission. Normally I have to quit the mission (or be killed) when I get far enough into it that they spawn 3 ace enemies. Because of this I never really knew how far these duty missions would go, or if they did in fact have an End..

Today I developed a new tactic that enabled me to defeat those 3 Ace pilots and continue.. The same tactic worked on the 4 Ace pilots then the spawn of 5 Ace pilots.

As it turned out, the 5 Ace pilot spawn was the final spawn for the mission and I got an instant "mission success" and a nice credit boost (6000cr I believe)

Nice to know these missions do in fact have an end.. the net exp for the mission was just over 60k exp. Just enough for 1 Tier 2 box to be trained.

Maybe this is common knowledge nowdays?? I havent lurked the forums to much lately so I'm not up on all the stuff anymore.

I do escort duty missions occasionally for xp (imp/inq), and I've found that after each mission completes, I can hang around and they'll shoot me another wp to meet up with a new prison ship to escort. Haven't had it end without offering me another mission yet.. Good way to rack up lots of xp for those 1mil tier 4 boxes.

I havent tried escort missions as of yet. If they are good exp I might give them a shot.

The "kill the pirates in the Yavin system" duty mission Im doing does end but after 5 sets of 3 waves each.

I've never liked escort missions that much (in any Star Wars game )... Don't like protecting people that much

Heheh, I've never gotten to the end of a duty mission... Too bad you can't take previous tier Duties That would be very fun, killing Tier I TIE's

Little hints on surviving those harder fights..

1) Target an enemy and select its engine as your target. Once that ship is disabled ignore it until you finish with the others. Disable all ships except the last one. Destroy the last one then go back and finish the disabled ones.

2) If you are following a ship trying to destroy/disable it and you start taking fire, dodge the incoming fire to lose the attacker then go back to your original ship.

I've managed to get through 3 complete duty "destroy" Missions by doing these things. The biggest thing is "1)" makes it so your gun capacitor doesnt get you killed. My main problem was having the capacitor drain before the enemy was destroyed, meaning it took much longer to get them killed (and the enemy had more time to line up a shot) This was even though I did not miss a single shot on my enemy so no wasted shots.

Bonus is the aggressives you're defending against are after the ship you're escorting, not you. And since (in my case) the ship I'm escorting is a Decimator, I can take my time and pick off the intruders.

Edit: I'm not selling this, there's lots of ways to xp, just sharing info about duty missions.

Disabling ships is handy, unfortunately its very easy to have your hard work stolen. I think there should be a system in place where other players who destroy your disabled ships aren't rewarded with the full experience bonus. That is the only pitfall I see with this idea.

Other players cant damage your "mission" ships even if they are disabled.. (Ive watched and laughed as some people tried to shoot them) Only random spawn enemies can be stolen that way.

Oh, I did try the "escort" missions today.. the rate of exp is FAR worse than on the "kill the pirates" mission.. Just a heads up for those who want more action and much faster exp...

If you're having trouble and getting blown up a lot, Escort missions are easier because the enemies will be shooting at your charge, not you.Personally, I never see the escort go below 95% on their shields either so they're tough enough to take anything the enemy throws at them as long as you don't decide to go off and make a sandwich during the mission. The drawback is that you are tied to the task for a very long time unlike patrol missions where you can take a break after you defeat all the waves at a certain point.

Hijacking missions are harder Escort Missions since your charge is a much weaker ship (after all, you did just disable its shields and systems) and the attacks are more fierce.
