Because we'd really like it to be
Imagine seeing a friend's yacht
and flying your TIE up to it to stop by and say hi!
There are many references in the Star Wars EU to ships being able to dock
in space. Let us do it please!
Maybe we'd have to group up in
space first...?

Whatabout a little dialog saying "player x is asking for docking clearance" and you are given the option to allow or deny it?
If you say allow the player that docked is loaded in to your little Yacht-World and you see his ship outside docked with yours.
I think this cant be to hard to implement but then again... im no game developer....

My dream is that someday this will be possible for adventures in space, like taking a raiding party to a Deathwatch space station, docking and unloading the team and progressing inside like on a Corvette badge mission.

I could see this happening between multiplayer ships, where 2 parties of ppl mix in a sort of a party thing, where they could walk between a SoroSuub and a Decimator, or something.

OR, if a ship was disabled you could rescue the pilot!!
Wouldn't THAT be nice sometimes hehe

Sounds cool, but it seems to have limited use. I can only really see a practical use if you were a shipwright, and you could dock and repair or replace components. Would be great for Rebels who hate the limitations of the repair and rearm command.
Docking with stations however, seems like a great idea. The only problem is that I would never visit the land again, if I could just go to merchants in a space station and such.
