How possible is this idea? Very. It doesn't require a whole lot of new code (atleast it shouldn't) and it will bring ground and space little closer together in my opinion. MP ships cost us 1 lot when decorated, thats acceptable but we should get more out of it then 75 items in a ship.
Here is the idea...
Give us the ability to place a landing pad on the ground via a menu option accessed from the MP ships datapad icon. Using the menu option a player will be taken into terrain build mode (like when placing a house) to find valid landspace. Once a landing pad is placed it costs maintence for upkeep, you can launch from and land your ship on this structure. Once a player has a landing pad only the ship connected with that pad may land on it, and can also land directly onto it from a space station along with the normal starports.

han landed a imp shuttle into the forest of endor... why cant we even land on the flat empty plains of naboo?
in every movie they show them landing somwehere odd pretty much without a spaceport... just setting up a lil camp and wallah!
love the idea!!

Well we understand the problems of not being able to fly above the ground of a planet to choose a landing site. It would also be burden to have to select valid landscape with each attempt to land at anything other then a starport. So this idea gives the server a fixed location after the landing pad is placed. Hopefully the dev's will review and discuss this idea.

Many ideas like this came up in beta, including one that would allow you to land a ship from space using the "house placement" screen which would require the least about of coding. I'm sure the dev's are well aware of the desire people have to place ships on the ground. It would be great if your "flying house" could be entered from the planet surface.

Yes I was in beta, i'm aware of the idea's. I didn't see my version of how to land on the planet so hopefully it will be given some thought. They might know our desire but it doesn't mean they don't want our inisght on how it could be done.
