Well, im not far into privateer yet, but heres my thoughts:
Number 1 problem i think right now is with parts. SW's are into chassis, and not enough are into making good parts. The market has not matured yet, so its going to be rough for awhile. (not to mention dev adjustments on player made parts which are bound to happen)
Anyway, i think its all about min/maxing your ship, and theres going to be some serious trade offs. For example Front armor later on i'll probably strip off completely and just leave a light rear armor only... but its gonna be about getting weight reduced parts from a good SW, and those parts aint there yet as near as i can tell.
Ultimately i think privteer will have to overload the power requirements before the ships mass if thats even possible. Kinda like a bunch of hot rodders souping up old coups
Well, at my level, I can't fly anything without stripping ALL armor except the Rihkxyrk

Ok, I'm making this thread because I hardly see anyone talking about how gimped the privateers are. I see rebels and imps alike talking about how they need more mass. Well, before you complain, take a look at OUR profession. Here is a breakdown of our masses:
Light Fighters
Scyk
Granted at Novice
12K
Kihraxz
Granted at Tier 2
30K
Medium Fighters
Dunelizard
Granted at Tier 1
70K
Ixiyen
Granted at Tier 3
80K
Bombers
Kimogila
Granted at Tier 2
90K
Rihkxark
Granted at Tier 4
130K
Take a look at those numbers, compare them to the other two factions, and you'll see why I have a problem with this. T/I has 50K mass. A-wing has 65K. Kihraxz has . . . 30k??? Ok ok, maybe we have good bombers. Y-wing has 160K mass. T/B has 190K. Rihkxark has . . . 130K?? Ok, we're 0 for2 now. Lets look atmedium fighters. X-wing and Ixiyen are both tier 3 medium fighters, yet X-wing gets 100K while we get 80K??? This is sad. 0 for 3.(Ok, just thought I'd add something in here I missed. At master, the rebels have, well, a buttload of ships over 100K. Pretty much everything except the A-wing and Z-95. Imperials have 3 over 100K. The Aggressor at 120K, the Oppressor at 140 or 150K, and the bomber at 190K, for a total of two fighters and one bomber. We have one craft over 100K . . . a bomber, at 130K.This is all excluding firesprays, since we all get one, assuming we can afford it, and muiltipass ships, again, becausewe all get one.) Why privateers aren't up in arms is beyond me. And this is just the mass issues. Now lets look at abilities.
1st let me get droid programs out of the way. We get one. Reactor overload. Nothing useful like transfer shields (rebels)or weapon power boost (Imps.) Personally I think transferring shield power from front to back should be available to everyone. However, since other people can burn programs onto your chips, this can be overlooked . . . especially since our ships don't have enough mass to fit a droid interface on anyways.
Ok, special abilities. Lets start with speed boost. I like speed boost. It works properly, and has saved me many times. No problem there.
Now lets look at pirate trap. Useless. There are two lvls of pirate trap, the second being at master. I have only tried the 1st lvl, so I can't speak for the second one. However, by the time I get it, I'm fighting tier 3's pretty regularly. The way it is now, I hit pirate trap and 2 or 3 tier 1 sycks jump in. Please. You call that a distraction? This needs to be made more useful. Again, I don't know how much better lvl 2 trap is, so if you do, please tell me.
Next is epulse, which doesn't work. I've tried lvl one and two many times, and nothing ever happens, despite being told it was successful. So far . . . 1 for 3. (After more experimenting, I've realized this ability does in fact work, allbeit not very well. I thought nothing was happening, which is understandable considering there is no visual effect what-so-ever. As far as damage, it's laughable. Tier 3 ships lost, I dunno, 5-10% shields, at the cost of all my capacitor energy. I tried this near the corvette, just for ****s and giggles, hoping it would damage all of it's subsystems. Well, is did nothing but piss everything off in a 500 meter radius
Did no visible damage to anything. This is no my official "aggro everything in sight" button
All it does is turn all the yellow blips on your radar to red
Still 1 for 3)
Finally is IFF transponder scramble. This is nice when it actually works. However, it's only useful when trying to run away, as attacking the scrambled craft makes them aggro you again, as it should be. Ok, so we get a point here, bringing it to a total of 2 for 4.
So basically the only abilities we have that work and are useful are defensive ones. Offensive skills are non-existent.
Finally I want to touch briefly on master level ships. Early in beta, Privateer had sole access to the Firespray. This was as it should be, as it gave all 3 factions one unique single seat and one unique multi-passenger ship at master, for total of 2 ships. However, someone, in their divine wisdom, decided to give the firespray to everyone. I don't know why, but I'm guessing this is going to stay that way. So, all I ask is that we get a unique single seater at master, to bring us to 3 ships, just like the other factions.
(Shadwe has suggested the Black Sun Starviper from Shadows of the Empire. I think this is a great suggestion for our master level ship. Scroll down to his post for a description and link
)
Ok, to sum up, in order of importance
-mass needs to be increased across the board and brought in line with other factions (patch in the works)
-special abilities need dire attention. Pirate trap is useless and e-pulse does not work (to my knowledge) (E-pulse works . . . just very poorly)
-need unique single seater at master
-need better droid programs, after we get the mass to fit a droid in our ships
After reading this, post any comments you might have, as well as any errors, and I'll correct them. Again this thread is for discussing *privateer* issues. If you have anything to add to the above list that is noteworthy, post it, and I'll add it to the list and credit it to you

I totaly agree with this, I also think its pretty gimp that we as privateers got to go through the damn jabba theme park just to get to our tier 3 trainer. This is messed up some of us dont have good faction with jabba ad it takes forever to get good with him. Which by the way I cant find the trainer, anyway, in that damn palace. Where is he / she? Can someone help me with this

Well, I dunno about Jabba, cause I'm acorsec privateer. HOWEVER, *my* tier 3 trainer was in Nym's cantina, with -5000 Nym faction. Can't tell you how frustrating THAT was. Every time I went back it was like "Great Escape" all over again.

Jabba's trainer is a Rodian name Beissa in the back of Jabba's throne(?) room. About 15 feet away from Boba Fett.
By the way, I think the devs are trying to pass off our ineffectual ship handicaps by giving us different styles for each ship. I mean, if you add a Kimogila A and a Kimogila B together, you ALMOST get the mass of a TIE Bomber. Of course, with the ship styles, all but one are usually god-awful ugly.

/agree
I saw someone post that in response to griping about privateer's low masses. They said "but you guys get like 4 styles of each ship!" I tried not to laugh too hard.

I feel that the Firespray should have stayed as Privateer only but will put forth this as our master level ship.

Some would expect the leader of the largest criminal empire the galaxy has known to travel in an opulent space yacht filled with luxury, but Prince Xizor was often one to surprise. His conveyance of choice was no less expensive, but it was far more deadly.
The Virago was a prized possession, a heavily modified MandalMoters StarViper built to his exacting specifications. The vessel had two flight modes. In passive mode, its body armor and weapons systems are folded flush to the primary hull. In combat mode, the vessel blossoms like a deadly metallic flower, its armored wings spreading out and its pair of double cannons swinging forward to bracket the cockpit module.
The S-foil wings are each tipped with Koensayr N2-f microthrusters that provided the Virago with exceptional maneuverability. Though larger and more massive, the Virago had agility comparable to that of a TIE interceptor. The ship's advanced Quadex IGt provided speed to match.
In addition to the side-slung Ht-12 heavy double laser cannons, the Virago had two forward-firing Borstel proton torpedo launchers each with a magazine of three torpedoes.
The Virago's greatest drawback was its voracious power requirements. Four heavy grade power generators were tucked behind each wing. Though expensive to maintain, such considerations were paltry to someone as wealthy as the head of Black Sun.

This is just lame. At this site - http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/expansions_ships.jsp - It is listed as: Privateer Fighters, Special. I guess they might want to change their own site.

I think they should ditch the whole mass thing.
Fighters/Bombers are limited by the number of components they can use anyway, and it would add much more variety to the fighters used by high level pilots.

Thats a great suggestion. I'd love to see a starviper at master privateer.
Added your suggestion to the main post, to your credit ![]()
