As one poster mentioned previously, this issue was around in Beta. We pleaded to not have this part of mastering pilot go Live, but it did anyway. 8(
I masterered in Beta pretty easily - all solo. I specifically tested from the point of view of the casual, solo player, knowing full well that the multiplayer ships would be "gated" from that type of player. SWG has, until JtL, been a game of "your own adventure in the SWG Universe", e.g., play it your way, join a guild, group up or play it casual and solo. Not with JtL as it now is in Live, at least for Rebels and possibly Freelance/Privateer.
My own experience today (Nov 7 '04):
I enter Kessel about 10 AM EST to do the first part of the Master Alliance mission - the "30-kill". I'm the only one in the zone and the kills are pretty easy as long as I steer clear of the Agressors. About 90 minutes later, two kills from completion, our house takes a power hit (I kid you not) - computer reboots and I'm back in Doaba and have to repeat it again - argh! So I head back in. Three kills from completion, while I'm engaging an Oppressor, I get ganked - one shot kill, never saw it coming. Repeat again. Ten kills from completion, I see a PC YT-1300 - hey, Neutral, so I let it go. It ganks me. Now I have a headache. Can't imagine why...I take a couple of Motrin and sack out for a bit watching the NASCAR race in Phoenix.
After a couple of hours of nappage and a nice dinner, I straggle back to the computer. Must have caught everybody else napping because I get two hours in Kessel with just me. I count down the kills at 10-9-8...holding my breath. I get it done...finally.
On my server, I'm not the head of the pack, but I'm much farther along than most - the Kessel gank-capade hasn't really started rolling yet. I know it will.
Later, I find the YT-1300 that ganked me in Kessel. Apparently they have a bunch of people on board and they are partying or something. Heh - one missile shot anda twinblaster hit and its so much orbiting rubble. A whole passle 'o people have some BF and wounds to take care of. What goes around comes around.
For any player, solo or group-minded, putting the Master level missions in a PvP zone was a mistake. Not offering an option to grind the 7.5 million xp required was a mistake. The Devs knew it in Beta because a lot of us saw what was going to happen in Live if it wasn't changed and said so. We weren't heard.
So - to the poster having a bad day of ganking - hang in there. You can get it done, but it's going to have to be an off-peak playing time run. Do a /who every chance you get just for paranoia's sake. Concentrate, kill fast, and get the heck out of there as soon as you're done.
As for the last part of the master mission - the Corvette - if you're imperial you've got Bomber Strike so it can be soloed. For Rebels, you're going torequire a group - and a big one. If Freelance/Privateer has to kill the Imperial 'Vette (same as Rebels), you'll need the same thing - a big group. One of the guys ahead of me posted up on our server board asking for help. I volunteered. There were a lot of us who did. We got the 'Vette multiple times for folks needing to complete. As a result, the favor will be returned to me sometime this week - all the folks I helped will come back and help me and anyone else who needs it.
I'm a casual, solo player by necessity as much as by choice. But by lending a hand, I met some folks, and they'll be helping me in return. It's too bad we forced into a PvP zone and forced to group to complete the Pilot skill tree, but for now it's the only way.

i have to agree it is a bad system that causes unhappy people and encorages as#holes to greif players trying to master it should be changed. i find it hard to belive that the devs actually thought that it was a good idea and question them being in there position if this is what they come up with. i have friends who have younger kids that play and are not super uber l33t pilots and just want to have fun and pve and they are being griefed by supposed adults as they try and do there mission. pvp should be an option in this game not a requirement. it even says on the box that you will be able to play to your style. so untill this is changed the kids who play, and adults who do not want to play with uber l33t pvp players and there infantile behavor, will have to wait to master pilot. will they wait or move on to another game?

Pavic, do you really think SOE is gonna listen to this cry baby post? You're just another poster in a long line of them that have tried to bend the will of the Developers of this game. Good luck
I think your post is more about crying that you have to go back to work and won't have the "week off" and luxury of playing for 120hrs straight" to get your master pilot box, which you are so so so so close to getting and it must hurt greatly being that close. ROFLMAO!!!! tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk
Now that going back to work is looming on the horizon, you strike back by demanding that SOE change things. ROFLMAO!!!!!
Look at it this way Pavic, you can always quit your job and stay home and play this game that seems to have much meaning in your life. Time and effort to you doesn't jive with time and effort to SOE, hence the reason for this pathetic post.
Chill out, its just a game. Forcasting doom and gloom to SOE because you can't have things your way is getting very old on the forums. The game is still here.
Oh yeah, your signature: It stinks of genocide. I can think of only one man who would believe those words, and that would be Hitler.

Sorry to go OT here but:
If i kill the 30 ties/rebs/whatnot, can i leave the system and reapir ordoes thetwo missions have to be completed in one go?
And if multiple people have the Ace mission would they all be credited for the kills? (same with the corvette in the end)

Well i normally dont post much but I felt inclined to. I Whole heartily agree with you man. In fact if I cougn in blood I would. When i got JTL I saw that he B wing, my personal favorite was in master Rebel pilot. Ok i figured, It'll take some work but sure lets go for it. I know the B wing is not a huge favorite but it has always been mine from wheni first say it as a lad back in RotJ. After making to 4443yesteray i had a goal today, to get my Bwing. But as fate would have it, well let me explain.
I woke up today 250K from my last Tier 4 box i rolled that out today and did the final mission froma friend of mine and his A wing. I then went to the generla and he sent me to kessel. Well unfortunatley work called so I went there for 8 hours came back, hey I said to my small guild, we are small we like it that way, Lets go to Kessel. WE went on in.
Within the first 5 kills we got ganked by a few players, imps they were. We thought to be diplomatic and chatted with them. On the server, Radiant there is a sort of rule, name you ship NO PVP mission and you should be left alone. Note should it will come into affect later. We renamed head back, and hey they came at us and left us alone. Nice so we cranked out the mission, gotkilled by some guyonce but returned the favor a few times over =P. Then i go back to the trainer and i have to blow up this Vette. Alright ok fine. Went back to kessel there was agroup of Rebs and freelance there ready to do the mission, i joined up and we went for it. With the 12-15 of us the escorts were short work. then a gunboat wnet down, then i dies, fast. Now when i say fast I mean two shots and concidering my longporbe still had full shiled it had to be a player. roups chat lit up with got killed by so and so. It was an Imperial guild, obviously not following the rules because all of us had the NO PVP thing on our ships. We regroup a few times but a few get picked off then more do. Finally after several deaths we beat the Player imps off. We head back to the Vette the mission is near about to despawn so we all gang up on the vette, but at 2000 meters away, it despawns. Anger depression frutration all set in, a new found hate for the guild that caused us to fail. So i pop to the board here i am find out that this is a serious problem. And that we cant grind through it, as in get the 7.5 mil exp. More anger and depression, and a wonderin of wether my dream of flying a Bwing is worth it. If i have to take out a capitol ship and beat off the waves of Players that can 1 shot 1 kill my y wing, which i think is pretty nice and can take a fair amount of punishment, Is it really worht it? No its not in my opinion. I was activly pursuing my B wing till today, now I'm left with doubt.
And the kicker to it, its hard for rebs and freelance, we actually have to fight it off and all that but the imperials when they do it they have an ability, im not sure the name, some bombing run thing that blasts the vette in a few shots. Unblanaced game as usual. So to the next imperial that posts and sasy to the affect of, hey it was easy, try switching sides.
So in th end I Say let us grind through it, I'll do it, I'll do it in a heart beat. Well off to bed now, thanks for letting me vent. Flame me if you will but I agree that a grind for master should be in order.

Necromantic - read the whole post before replying. I clearly stated I enjoyed being in groups over solo. Futhermore, I don't have friends who can go to kessel with me for three hours and hunt. The time difference between when we can all be on is too great. Make a better argument and read the postor don't post at all.
Jetvision - First, don't ever attack me personally. That qoute is from the Warhammer 40k game, which I thought sounded cool, so I used it. Many peoplehave weird and strange qoutes. Grow Up. Secondly, I enjoy my real life very much. Even if I had another week off, I do not believe I could accomplish this mission due to griefers. Also, the alternative I am asking for would take LONGER than any achievable option, so don't say I am whining about having to go back to my job. And personally, I think you are the one who needs to be worrying about how seriously you are taking this game. I am offering constructive criticism in almost all cases, although I am sure I hit the occassional rant like any other player. So, maybe you should start interacting with people more and understand that they react to things in different ways. Lastly, a "crybaby post" this is not. I am putting forth a logical argument due to a serious defect with the game. If you noticed, most of the people who posted in this thread and the others like it are in COMPLETE agreement with me. You are in the minority. That doesn't make your opinion less valuable. BTW, if you look at this thread again, have you already mastered pilot? If so, I bet that has a lot to do with what you posted. So step up to the plate, cut the low blows, and give me a logical argument for not doing something about it. Then we can talk. Oh, and one more thing. I am a history teacher specializing in Military history with strong roots in the history of genocide. If you would like a list of people who would follow this qoute, I can make you a hundred to start out with. Quite frankly your subtle comparison of myself to Hitler is the most grevious insult you could have made. So think before you speak.

It's been stated that alot of pilots willstay 4/4/4/4. The difficulty of mastering is as designed. The concept is along the lines of jedi. To be master, you need to be master over NPC's and players. If you want to be master over just NPC's, think of it as 4/4/4/4 is master level over NPC.
That being said, it's a given that this will be a hotly debated topic.

I would be fine being 4/4/4/4 if I got access to at least the Multi-player ship.

So, after playing for two hours looking for TIEs, I found a few packs of yellow TIEs that fit the mission profile. Killed them all, thought cool, I got 10 TIEs down now. Then I find a random aggressor and take it down. I then got the following system message "29 more targets to destroy" or something similiar to that. BS. I killed TIEs that fit the description, but, because they were not aggro TIEs they didn't count. So now, here I go. How in the world does SOE expect the casual player to master pilot. I am a casual player (well, probably a bit more than that, maybe an above average casual player), but I will never get this done (I was only able to grind pilot so fast because I have been off of work for a week). I am never going to have enough time, or wish to put in the effort to do what is required for this master box. I understand that SOE should do this with jedi, but master pilot? I mean, come on. At least give me the option of accumulating the 7.5mil exp and earning the box, don't force me to kill 30 TIEs in a pvp sector and then blow up a corvette. If I earn the 7.5mil, I deserve that box. Too make it worse, if you don't master pilot within the next few weeks, you will never be able to do it due to Master PC packs killing everyone in the PVP sector. I am glad that SOE has decided to alienate their biggest player base, the casual players, by doing things this way. It is cool to give some bonuses to the hard core players, even giving them Jedi, but you should not take the option of master pilot from me or other casual players, just becausewe can't play 5 hours a day or beat off the wolf packs in the PVP sector. All I want is theoption to get master with 7.5mil. Leave the stupid mission in the Kessel sector and let the playerswho want to do it beable to. But give me, and the other 80% of the players on this game, the chance to become a master pilot. Believe me, there is going to bea revolt when more of the casual players get to the top to get that master box. So give us the 7.5mil option.Otherwise,SOE is probably going to start seeing a real diminishment of the player base.
