I'd say, yeah, good idea. Do that until the shipwrights unlock the potential of shields and armor, say, a month? Then PvP will be a whole different creature.

How about the fact that the A-Wing is the fastest and most manueverable Rebelship (at least from what I've heard, I'm not a rebel) ? Manueverablity and speed is life if you have skill at flying. I'm still flying a Kihraxz and Dunelizard as a 3-4-4-3 privateer because all the other privateer ships are too slow and clunky. They fly like a brick in my mind. If I was a Rebel, I would be in an A-Wing 99% of the time.

Lol, that's great I even have a hard time flying my Dunelizard vs my Kihraxz just because of the difference in ship agility. I only fly it when I absolutely have to because I need the extra armor/firepower for going against something big. Once I get some more good parts, I'm going to take my Kihraxz into PvP. I flew to Kessel and did a short test once and decided need a better engine before I head there again though. If they reduce damage at all so that it's more than one shot to kill, I see skilled pilots in light ships cleaning up in pvp.

There was an excellent post by a pilot who was in a light fighter in Kessel. He was attacked by 3 players. Because he was such a skilled pilot (and a pilot in RL) he freaking cleaned house. Took all 3 and continued unscathed.

I'll see ifI can find the post...

I can believe that. The primary problem right now is the first pass if you end up going head on (why I need a better engine). Once you get past that I can see how a someone could tear people up in a light fighter right now. As for using crappy ships, like the scyk, primary problem I see is with mass. No way you are going to fit a good engine and other decent stuff in one of those. If you don't have a good engine at least, the enemy will simply be able to put distance between you and take another head on at you again.

Ahh no what they should do is:

1.) randomize entry into kessel so you can't be spawn camped.

2.) Reduce PvP damage by an undetermined percentage. 25% maybe not enough, 75% may make fights stuipdly long.. theres a balance here.

Something is VERY WRONG if you can take a 12K mass starter ship and be able to shoot down advanced craft that far outweigh it in 1 or 2 hits.

75% would be good, think about it. my decimators shield hitpoints are 2433 front/back. if somebody has blasters that do 1000-2000 damage my shields are gone in 2-3 hits. if they reduced that by 75% the blasters would do 250-500 damage, that would not equal a stupidly long fight, and remember most ppl have blasters alot more powerful than that.

This was a great link and exactly what I was looking for. Previous to playing JTL I was a very big fan of FreeLancer. In that game I always prefered the smaller more agile ships. Since waiting for JTL I have been dreaming of flying an A-Wing with its speed and agility. Then reading about peoples views on PvP on how it does not matter what ship you use because it all ends with one shot. This sort of disappointed me that there would be no edge in a smaller faster more agile ship. After reading this I now have renewed hope in the system. Also it is a great point that in time the armor and shields will get more powerful to equal out the current influx of powerful weapons. I personally have not had the luxury of PvP. I flew out to the Kessel system last night and I was the only person there.

After reading a few posts on this board and other boards it looks like there will be a value to going to the A-Wing after all

I thought so too.

The thing about that experience is that, all the ones complaining about PvP don't really have a foot to stand on.

Check that story out, everyone. I'm more than certain that the 5 ships he took out all were whining about how PvP is gimped, when, in all honesty, all they have to do is get out and practice.

That's what makes JTL so much different than the ground PvP. It can be bettered by simply practicing.

something tells me they were taking on the vette so they can all get master pilot, and he just swooped in and wiped em all out while they were busy with killing the vette.

That is indeed a great story, and it really shows what PvP should be like. If there was a huge reduction in damage the biggest ship would always win. It would take the skill out of a twitch based game. If a small fast ship has to sit behind a larger ship for 10-15 shots before they go down, there is no chance that a small interceptor can defend itself against others. This would mean that PvP would only be reasonable in a 1 on 1 environment, because numbers would always win. The underdog needs a chance, and this system give it to him.
