It is that way in live. Here's a screenshot in live of a Y-Wing with a high-level engine:

Your phonographic memory needs a dose of photographic memory with a little bit pf physics thrown in as well. Aside from the fact that the only sound you would hear from the Y-Wing engines in space might be slight vibrations carried into the cockpit (since sound won't travel in a vacuum), the engines are *exactly* what make the sound if you're a spectator. A different engine will most certainly make a different sound. A more powerful engine makes a more powerful sound. TIE engines sound completely different from X-Wing engines. Since the game lets you put TIE engines in an X-Wing, the sound SHOULD change. All of the above posters have called you on your mistaken understanding of a universe with which you claim to be intimately familiar. You need to state which engines you feel woulf the engines used by Y-Wings in the movies and then we can debate if the sound is right. You will notice that some Y-Wing have engines that look more like Star Trek necelles than regular SW engines. These should certainly make a different sound. Sounds to me like you said "so and so should sound such and such" and when we posted responses that suggested the devs had taken into account the vast richness of the SW Universe, you panicked and said "no no no. It *has* to sound like this no matter what I do." I'm wondering why you're not complaining that all the Y-Wings out there don't have red blasters or Ion Cannons mounted on top...? It's OK to have realistic variety in one area and not another...?

I believe the engine sound doesn't change no matter which engine you use, it depends on what craft you fly.

The looks of a Y-wing's engines isn't what this topic is about. Why do you have to put all the nonsense into my head?? It's the sound of the Y-Wing's engines we're talking about. Maybe I should wait 'til people, who have the capability of understanding, make a reply on this topic. I need a break from this.
You are one quick-flaming fool. Grow a mind.
I am pointing out visually since I can't audibly that it changes. If the looks change it's only freaking obvious to anyone who decides to think just a tad outside the stupid box that the SOUND DOES TOO!!
That's twice in this thread that you've posted without thinking. Just stop it.

I'm starting to wonder how many people replying to this topic have actually watched the Star Wars trilogy.

Many, many, many, many times over. First time I wacthed ANH, I was 3. That was in 1977. I watched each one as they came out, and then watched them over and over again.
Put the same engine into your Y-Wing that was in the movie, then maybe you'll get the sound you're looking for.

......does the sound really matter? If it bothers you this much quit the game.

How much more do you need people to tell you. You've asked a question and a whole bunch of people are telling you about THEIR experience with what you asked. One guy tried to show visually what he can;t show audibly and that still was not good enough. What do you want, and what makes the effort of having to prove something to you worth it when you won't accept what players are telling you to begin with?
