Thread: Got ganked twice trying to do the master missions. This may be the last straw.

Instead of focing folks into unwanted PvP just make the game a tad harder to encourage grouping. BUT first that would require Sony to fix the experience distribution aspect. Unless they have already the last time I grouped with someone...whoever did the most damage got the most exp. Now how fair is that to the melee classes when by the time they get to a mob its almost dead? As with EVERY MMO I have played the exp was determined not by damage output but by group success, and as a result everyone got the same amout of exp per kill regardless...fix that and you will see more groups.

"whoever did the most damage got the most exp."

Anyone who does damage to a ship gets a full share of the xp, unless you are in a multiplayer ship, where the xp is split among the people on the ship (in turrets).

The problem isn't that you have to PVP.

The problem is that player equipment and NPC don't match. NPCs have massive armor that take a while to destroy as they increase in tiers. It's much higher than even the best player equipment. However, they do a fairly small amount of damage and thus you can survive them. Player weapons do much more damage than even the highest tier NPC weapons. This leads to the situation where a player can go through someone's shields, armor, and chassis in one hit, because it's been designed around the NPCs having good shields/armor and mediocre weapons.

The solution isn't to take the master missions out of Kessel. Fighting off other players makes the game that more challenging, interesting, and entertaining. The argument that you don't want to fight players just doesn't hold. A red dot is a red dot. If you can fight off tier 5 stuff, you should be able to handle most if not all players.

The solution is to reduce pvp damage. We're talking by one half, at least. Maybe even a 75% reduction. They need to make it so one ship can not destroy an entire squad of enemy players in 20 seconds.

maybe you should try getting a group together....is kinda...necessary

It's necessary whether you have to worry about getting ganked by other players anyways, as it should be IMO.

That doesn't change the fact that forcing people to PvP when they simply don't want to is a bad idea, and has been since the beginning of MMORPGs.

look this is a MMO, wheather you like it or not, if u dont want to run into players in kessel go to a low population server... but besdies that if u dont like PVP fine, dont do the master misson, but if u want to be master then you have to talk to ppl and get somthing going and go OWN kessel for 20mins.. If u dont want to do that then u can always get to 4-4-4-4 which is decent enough to PVE everywhere.

in space u get the samexp per kill even if u just hit the target just once. also try talking to teh other players n teh pvp zone and tell them u dont want to pvp and jsut trying to finish a mission. Most (except the extremejerk***s) will say ok and let u on ur way. Hell you already have enough to worry about atleast with the rebel master missions taht i went on. Darn imp gunboats never miss and have 6 guns. 6!!!!

I think this just depends on the server, because I get killed every so often in kesel and god knows how many times I have destroyed the corvette. Kesel really isnt that bad

Yep you heard me, read the title. I had high hopes for JTL but after getting ganked twice while trying to do the master missions, those hopes are gone. I don't want to PvP, in fact I despise PvPing, yet because some other guy thinks it's fun I'm forced into it. There is no way I can fight tier 5 npcs and try to keep track of other players at the same time. I even had another buddy with me, he got ganked too.

Honestly, this is the STUPIDEST idea for SWG ever in my eyes. There is no reason for it to have to be this way.

Well if they were to reduce PvP damage to something like PvE, our problems would be solved.

1. We could just as easily argue that your PvE solo grind style is ruining our game. How? Because it gets F'n lame to see everyone running around with master this and master that, not to mention all the freakin' jedi that will be running around down the road. Maybe some of us don't want to see B-Wings and YT 1300s everywhere? Why should your desires more important than ours?

Here's why, and it's real simple. Because "our" desires don't involve taking something away from you or preventing you from doing something. That's the essential problem- my playstyle doesn't take a damn thing away from yours. The fact that I have "Master" whatever over my head doesn't keep you from reaching whatever goals you set yourself. You're talking about a system, however, that allows people like you to keep someone from doing something. Since your playstyle apparently involves taking things away from other players, and the alternative does not, I think it's clear why you're in the minority.

2. Solo grinding is ruining this game. Players don't interact anymore because it's faster, more lucrative, and easier to put on uber comp, get buffed, and do solo missions by yourself. Again, your play style is affecting our game, because most of us don't play MMORPG's to play by ourselves.

Even if the Master mission were removed from Kessell, it would still require a group. Stop conflating PvP with difficulty or required grouping. Despite what you seem to think, PvP is not the answer to all the questions of how to make high-end content. I'd expect the majority of the problems you're referring to to be hashed out in the combat revamp.

2. Most people realize that PvP in JTL is a little out of whack right now. Don't base your judgements of the mission on the current PvP model.

It's not a question of the model, although that's pretty broken. It's a question of forcing people to do PvP at all. How about you being forced to role-play and be adjudicated by roleplayers before you're allowed to have a Master title?

Yeah, I didn't think you'd like that much.

If you encounter one hostile player, and that player targets you the mission taker. Well if he hits you before your squad can hit him yep, mission over. The second part doesn't fail if you die but you must survive to get credit for destroying the corvette.
