Thread: Does the instant travel option hurt the game?

It's not so much about the economy. Players still can keep their own money if they launch their own ship into space rather than using the shuttle. What I'm talking about is balancing gameplay systems.

When the devs were discussing setting up travel systems long ago, they asked players if they wanted to make it so that you could travel from anywhere to anywhere instantaneously. Players said no. They liked the idea that, the galaxy being a galaxy, every planet is not equidistant from the other. They wanted some realism in terms of travel.

That decision added time to travel. Eventually players said they didn't want to wait nine minutes for the shuttle. But you still have to wait for the shuttle.

Does it take away from anything, gameplay-wise, when you can click the travel option on your own ship and instantly teleport to another planet rather than having to wait for the shuttle?

Thoughts?

i use my sorosub yacht if i want to travel to other systems since its invulnerable, i like the instant travel option but also dont mind having to launch into space to travel from naboo to dantooine since i have no payouts at all if i travel using my yacht the longer travel time is offset by not having to pay for a ticket, plus when using the instant travel option i like the ability to take any hunting friends without jtls with me, saving them some money too

Hmm. Didn't know you could do that. Thanks for the info.

you still have to get into space, hyperspace, then fly to the spacestation to travel to dant, dath, yavin4, and (i think) endor. you can only ista-travel between the 3 main planets and lok. so i think its fine the way it is with a little bit of both.

I like the fact that they limited to core planets except they included Lok, which owns because I live on Lok
As for who is it gonna hurt?
It hurts the money sink and the ticket collector, that's about it.
I bought JTLS to get away from the ground game because I'm tired of it, so anything to help move space along quicker makes me happy.

That is a bug.

work-a-round

click ticket vendor machine of the planet your on after map comes up hit ESC button now click on ship terminal travel you will now have same choices as the planet your on.

I like feature, I could live with out it if they allowed me to Jump to the desired station. In beta you could hyper to docking range of a space station, Now that we can't do this The travel option is awesome.

It helps the game for me. Enough of my gaming time is spent waiting already. Really, they should put a video game in this video game so that I can have fun while I'm waiting to have fun.

Between waiting for doctor buffs, mind buffs, and shuttles, the time between boot-up time and fun-time is plenty long enough for me to become immersed... in boredom. I enjoy the game's combat, but the only adrenaline rush I get in the first 15 minutes of most SWG sessions is hoping that I can actually get my buffs and a few missions in before my wife decides she needs my immediate and undivided attention.

For me, the game needs to strike a balance between immersion and real-life. Eliminating shuttle waits is certainly a step in the right direction as far as I'm concerned, and when your game time is at a premium, that definitely makes JtL worth the price of admission.
