Thread: global warning message upon ISD/Rebel station being attacked possible?
game could be helped a lot by such a message, too....

In response to some of the other posters here:
Someone said a single fighter does not have the firepower to destroy an ISD. That's not entirely true. One on one, a B-Wing does have a good chance of taking it out. And actually, in XWA, I have destroyed several ISDs in the YT-2000 (although granted this isn't a fighter, it's still very weak in comparison). But this was just with me and it. A Star Destroyer's main defense against such attacks are it's TIE Fighters. I haven't been in deep space yet, but if there isn't, there should be multiple groups of TIEs flying protection for the ISD. Also, these TIEs need to react to the presence of an enemy from a greater distance than firing range in order to be effective. Plus, on top of these patrols, an ISD should launch additional TIEs with the sole purpose of destroying it's attackers. Once again, I haven't been in deep space so I don't know how tough the ISD really is. But yes, they should be uber strong... at least compared to a standard fighter. Same things should also be applied to the Station (what is it... rebel?).
I noticed someone else saying that there's a blind spot behind an ISD currently. This needs to be fixed. An ISD as several cannons that have a rear view of the ship. Some of these are along the neck that the bridge sits on. However, there actually is a very small area in between the engines where the guns can't reach. X-Wing didn't have to worry about that because the cannons on the ship could fire through itself without inflicting damage. XWA didn't have that, but instead engines caused splash damage. The closer you were the more damage you took. We should have something along those lines placed into this game to keep pilots from flying into these crevices.
One last one: Someone said that the empire wouldn't really want to notify their pilots that one of their big ships is under attack and used the 2 death stars as an example. First off, the Death Star was huge and as far as they knew, fighters would never be able to destroy it. Sure, they could mar up the surface a lot, but they wouldn't have the firepower to actually do any damage. For the second one, the fleet was not only there to protect. It was more so there to help trap the rebels behind a rock and a hard place, with the hopes of crushing them once and for all. But, on to ISDs. The Empire has lost many of them before and everyone knows that. Therefore, it would not be detrimental to their "image" if they were to send out a signal to all their able-bodied pilots asking for assistance.

I support the idea. And yes, make it a system message, available whether on ground or in space, should go once every 5-15 mins (thinking 5 mins for that occasional person that's afk just as something important happens), and should be toggleable on/off.

Yeah the blind spot is between the bottom engine and the hull. It take you two minuites to destroy its only covering laser - I made a response about this in beta in one the daily threads but I guess it wasn't deamed important enough for the time they had left.
Also there is another lovely bug that if you don't ever get to "eye level" with the ISD then it won't target you at all. I was able to fly underneath the star destoryer and back again several times without it targetting me.
However it does spawn ties - although it can take a while. I was busy taking it out and it spawned 5 tie bombers and then I was dead
They didn't spawn quickly enough tho imo.
I only know this from other games like AO, but in a zone like this the main target would only spawn every 8 hours or so. Not sure how fast the ISD/Station respawn.

Be nice to Swede (even if its fake), he may take a extra week to do it now.....

Hey, they treat me like that in my office (i'm programmer too *g*), so i'm just doing what i've learned, not more

Heya,
yesterday, the imperial star destroyer in Deep Space was destroyed by a relatively small band of rebel fighters. While this might seem too easy on first view, i think the problem was, that none of the imperial masters knew what was going on, so here's an idea:
Could Ace pilots get a global warning message (Attention, pilot. A Star Destroyer/Space station has fallen under attack by enemy forces! Help defending it is required immediately!), so that there's a bit more PvP interaction triggered instead of 'zone in, destroy target, zone out'?
Just an idea tho...
Excellent idea. Five stars. That'd be a great way to encourage the GCW.
Of course, I can already imagine what the Devs will say: "this will lead to too many players in that zone at once."
If that is their concern, I'd recommend sending that message to Master Pilots of a particular Squadron on a rotating basis (such as Crimson Pheonix or Black Epsilon depending on faction).
