Thread: CHANGE ITEM DECAY

Ijust got that from the shipwrights forums. You realized yet, that item decays by 10% on death?
The ship components and chassis have no condition, so i haven't figured it out earlier, but they decay
on hitpoints.

Till now i thought JTL is a just for fun game, you go out there and have nothing to fear... by time
you get the right equipment together and simply enjoying the game. But now i realized, that with
every death you loose 10% HP and all you equipments including the chassis is getting weaker.

It decays 10% of the remaining hitpoints, so you have like 47 death, before its totaly useless, but
with 7 death its already below 50% and you become easier & easier to destroy, once they hit through
your shield 'n armor.
How often do you repair you ground items? Once per day max, i guess. How often have you repaired your
ships yet? I guess much more often ... and it decays 10 times faster. There need to be something done
here ASAP !!!

I think a lot of people havent realized it yet, cause you get no popup, like you do on ground death.
But over time they will realize and complaints will come up.

I understand that the items have to decay, to keep the economy for shipwrights up, but dont let it
decrease on players death or taking heavy fire and not on such insane amounts..
I think this will hold a lot of people away from trying something new, cause it is too expensive.

Think looted parts shouldn't decay and decay rate lowered to 5%.

Actually item decay to the extreme that it is happening makes total sense. When you get shot down and eject you are scuttling your ship and using the escape pod. When you get it repaired from there, essentially I would think you are going out and salvaging the junk, reconditioning the pieces.

The dev's are actually starting to listen to the players that like the thought that your actions may have consequences.

If you find the ships and equipment too expensive, you can actually devote the time to building a shipwright character and making your own ships and equipment. But it will take a while.

This game is not designed for the new player to just dive right in and be super powerful right at the start. You actually have to work your way up.

I've been upset for a long time with the Dev's for ruining people's efforts to become jedi. I think it is entirely unfair that the requirements changed secretly pre-holo and that the grind got even worse post-holo. But I'm dealing with it. I am having more fun than I've had in a long time with JTL because I am interacting with my friends more grouping in space instead of solo grinding for fs xp. I will get back to the grind soon but this has been a nice break.

keep in mind that in pve vs tier 5 mobs and pvp it's not going to matter all that much if your components are decayed, once your shields and armor go down you are pretty much done anyway, isolated incidents aside.

that being said, i guess if it's pointless to have it, why have it?

Yes and pvp should be encouraged

They dhould do an insurance system like it is in thgroud game

PVE death insured = less decay

PVE dealth not insured = normaldecay

PVP death insured = no decay

PVP death not insured = normal decay

i would have no problem with instant death, when shields and armor is down, but when my items got 1/1 condition.. what if i

die another time? and sometimes i get shot through shield / armor, when it is still above 0 ... and that would instant kill

me then too...

If you ask me, less realism and more fun ...

Let the items decay over time ... something likea chassis can only fly 150 hours ... then its used off...

other equipment should be higher than that, like 400 hours ...

high active pilots would have to purchase another chassis every 1 or 2 weeks, what is a fair base if you

ask me ... the way it works atm i see no problem in using off your equipment in a 10hour pvp session...

So you would have to dock or /comm with a space station in each sector to get insurance, right? That might work. Although I would find it a pain since I jump between planets alot and probably not use insurance.

Actually - you decay 10% every time you repair an item, and the 10% is applied to the amount the item is repaired...

For example: I repair my armor for (1100/1200) for 100 damage, i deacy 10% of 100, or 10 - so my armor goes down to 1190/1190. Armor does not decau on hitpoints, it decays on the armor rating, all other items (including chassis) decay on hitpoints.

Chassis never need repair unless you eject or are completely blown up. Disabled in space and calling in a repair ship will not cause decay on the chassis and should allow you to travel to a station for complete repairs (which will also not decay the chassis).

There is no reason things should not decay when they are destroyed and damaged... it makes perfect sense. - If you're careful, and never get blown up (i've only completely exploded 3 times since i started playing on live, and i'm 4333 now) you never have to worry about the chassis.

Components should be disposable items, that's why they're removable - Otherwise, everyone would get what they needed, and never have to change things around - shipwrights would not have a renewable business, and people who had the money/resources to collect the really uber parts would own the world. The decay makes it so they can only own the world for a short time, before they must re-evaluate their parts situation.

I personally think it's good... though i'm sure that i'll get 1-starred for saying so... since anything that requires you to pay attention and spend money on is unacceptable in this game.

Yeah I agree, when yout stuff decays and you have to shell out another 400k to 1mil in credits for a new ship it makes me wanna say forget space flight it has become to expensive, I can agree with your parts decaying but not my chasis that cost me 100k to build and 800k for the blueprints, to only have it destroyed why I was trying to get my 30 kessel kills, how cheap are these rebel players out there? Sure not all are jerks but 90% on my server will not send ya a tell to see if you are getting your 30 or looking for a pvp....not to mention the fact that the corvette mission falls right in a PVP area...thats just wrong, you are in the middle of destroying that thing and some whacko decides to blow you up when you least expect it, Thanks Dann you are a true jerk....

They need to keep component decay to keep shipwrights in business, the decay thatSHOULD be removed is on chassis and components given as rewards from missions.

Also deaths in kessel, deep space and PvP should not cause decay at all like on the ground.
