I forget where I read this... it was in something that had to do with my X-Wing or X-Wing Alliance games, but the X-Wing's lasers are actually spaced so far apart that without convergence, if you placed the reticle directly on the TIE Fighter, you'd miss. The original X-Wing did not have convergence. XWA, however, did. The only catch to that one was the X-Wing's convergence was at a set distance, not auto (depending on target distance). Only a few of the fighters had something like that.

I solo'd all of tier 3 and 3 of the 4 tier 4 quests in my xwing. Perhaps you should attempt learning how to angle yourself better while following targets? The only thing(s) the xwing has a b*tch of time hitting are the aggressors/oppressors because of their size. What I do in the x is drop to about 250 speed, get on the enemies ass...eventually they'll just pass you instead of firing at you because you've matched their speed...at that point roll to your side so the screen is moving horizontally instead of vertically (hope you're picturing this lol ) when you're strafing along at the same speed as the ties/enemies horizontally your xwing blasts will catch them with all four shots if you're not exactly on the green lead indicator. Aim a little off of the center dot and you'll nail the enemies. Bigger ships you don't have to roll..just drop your speed to 250 and get behind them. Hope that helps some

hm ok for all thsoe who have problems with trageting jsut one thing to say. DONT TRUST THAT THING SHOWING YOU WHERE YOU SOULD SHOOT , in the x-wing i found out it shows worng i have to look myself where i should shoot and i hit with all 4 guns every time just try and practise afetr some times its so easy. And in X-wing alliance it was better you got there automatic lock and manual so you could diced in wich distance the 4 lasers should cross hope this will be added soon would be much easier with automatic and manual. better automatic.

Ha ha, its funny hearing people complaining about the X-wing. When the TIE Interceptor has all the same problems and more. Why dont YOU try flying in a 50k mass 1p/1m pos. I mean the X-wing virtually outclasses the TIE interceptor in every way. (THough it was BUIILT to counter the X-wing). Why dont you try rolling to get them flying horizontally and your blasters have an even better chance of hitting them then the Y-wing. Heck we even have a lead reticle and yet you still complain. /shrug the old old old skool X-wing game had the same playstyle and no lead reticle and I did fine.

ok...easy fix...just place your weapon in weapon slot 3...its on your wings, they are closer together than on the tip of the wing.

Yea, straight on it'll go past, but if you're in a tight turn the larger field of fire means that while the other ship is moving you'll have a greater chance. A trade off- but a very good one.

I have better time killing Ties in a Ywing than in Xwing due to the fact the Xwing has such a LARGE spacing on it weapons. Many times i have fired all weapons just to see the shots pass on all FOUR sides of the target. Cant someone code it so pilots can adjust the angle of fire for the Weapons or maybe even have a Shipwright be able to? Untill something is done about WHY even have the xwings in. If anything get some devs who are at least FAMILIAR with Star Wars Universe.

Is it possible to switch to single-fire mode? If so, try that. Also, try leading your target so that two of the shots clip the ship, if you try to be too precise I imagine that you would simply scare the bugger, framing him as you describe.

I love my X-Wing much more than I did the Y-Wing and it's a lot better. Maybe you should take a loot at it more, it takes some time, but you can outfit the X-Wing very well.

It's funny you mention that, i remember in the old days playing the original x-wing game, having to move side to side or up and down to get the x-wing's blasters to hit the target at close range. The X pattern of the wings is described as being to spread out the pattern to maximize the field of fire. Unfortunately while it makes for a neat looking ship it has no actual practicality and makes it a detriment more than anything.

One thing i suguest is forming your wepons into groups so the top two fire then the bottom two, so you waste less shots. What would realy be nice is chain fire mode like the old game had. Where it fires the lasers off in sequence allowing you to corect in between shots to get them all on tarrget.

X-Wing Vs TIE Fighter was the Very First game I bought for our new PC, so sweet. Why they didn't just code it into SWG, improve the graphics, is beyond me. That was a Multiplayer game as well, though I never tried it. Would have been sweet for those of us who grew up on such games.

Oh im not talking x-wing vs tie. I'm talking the 1993 original game x-wing. Of course they all had the same flight model realy, but they were my favorite series of spacegames. X-wing vs Tie was made to be multiplay and had singleplay missions tacked on. Ironicaly it suffered from the ghosting problem horribly, as did most lucasarts multiplayer games. Jedi knight was HORRIBLE for this. You could be blasting away at someone not doing a shred of damage because they were actualy 20 steps ahead of where you saw them. The original jedi knight not the quake engined jedi knight games, they had much better multiplayer code.

Oh and as i look over my right shoulder i see i still have myx-wing vs tie cd's on my shelf in the nostalgia collection department. Something else interesting i just noticed. There isn't a single tie fighter pictured on the cd case anywhere. They are all Tie Interceptors.

Actually, the X-Wing's lasers are supposed to be angled in a way as to come together at one point(in the crosshair). They are not supposed to shoot 4 separate lasers in a spread. I don't have the XWing yet, but if that's the case then I won't bother with it.
