Thread: Does the instant travel option hurt the game?

I use it frequently instead of traveling into space, but I'm wondering what others think. Should people have to wait for the shuttle if they want to instantly teleport to another planet?

You could make an argument that there is a balancing advantage to requiring people to take the shuttle if they don't intend to launch into space. Sure, you can launch into space and hyperspace to another sector, but it's going to take you a few moments before you get close enough to the space station to land. Then, another loading screen. Not instantaneous.

Just wondering what others think.

No way, one of the big points to having your own ship is traveling when you want to and not having to wait on shuttle. The shuttle wait was one of the worst aspects in the game as far as im concerned, and the instant travel is a vast improvement, especiallyif you travel a lot.

It's a good way to travel, but it might be better if there were more ways to drain money out of the game

i think its a good thing for the game, that your able to travl faster The long waiting time when your running to the shuttle and see it leave is over (if your not going to a small shuttleport, that is )

I understand the advantage of not having to wait for the shuttle, but what I'm wondering is should players be able to instantly travel without using the shuttle? I wonder if there needs to be a check and balance on the travel system.

Example: If you want to be instantly teleported to another planet, you have to wait for the shuttle. If you don't want to wait, you have to launch into space then hyperspace to the planet system and land at the space station.

I'm not necessarily saying this is how it should be. Just wondering what others think.

I'd like the removal of the insta-travel, but I think that you'd find that it could potentially take longer to get somewhere in your own ship if you did that.

If the hyperspace points were closer to the space stations, then you could probably do it, but when you've got a slower ship and you've got to cover 4.5km to get to the space station after arriving, and this is after waiting for the hyperspace jump and the loading screens, you could end up wasting a lot of time.

Holy crap. I thought that option was ony for travel among the planets starports (i.e. Mos Eisley to Bestine, not Mos Eisley to Coronet). I've been launching, hyperspacing, and landing to get from planet to planet.

I'm such a noob.

Traveling rules.

I like the fact that they limited to core planets except they included Lok, which owns because I live on Lok

As for who is it gonna hurt?

It hurts the money sink and the ticket collector, that's about it.

I bought JTLS to get away from the ground game because I'm tired of it, so anything to help move space along quicker makes me happy.

No way, it really helps. I much rather use my travel with my ship then sit around waiting for first one jump and then another. We all put up with it because it was what we have. And they have continually reduced the time you wait, but it still not a system I would use unless I have to. At this point with the freedom JTL gives you with your ships to travel and or do it by hyperspace, i will not use a starport shuttle unless I have todo so. This is by far better.

Actually the limiting of planets is a bug, they said they fixed it in the TC patch notes.

lol, you've apparently never accidently ran into a Tier5 hornet's nest. The repair bill fair exceeds the ticket price. (5-9k on average, but it can go higher)

I don't think instant travel hurts. I love it! Waiting sux!

If there's a reason this is hurting the economy, then they could charge a fee to dock or land the ships I guess.
