Is the Y-Wing only a rebel ship because in the stats it says Privateers and mercenries fly them!

Well, in the EU, the Koensayr BTL-3 Y-Wing is a starfighter that even precedes the rebellion.

It is widely used by planetary defense forces, pirates, mercs, and privateers...

However, the rebellion has made extensive use of these because of their low cost and high availibility (ships and pieces), which made it a good all-around ship for a insurrection with limited funds.
The X-Wing costs a fortune compared to an Y-Wing, and the A-Wing even more

But it is NOT a rebel only ship, far from it

The thing was originally a FIGHTER, but since they're cheap'n'easy, and have a convenient large storage area for bomber payloads, the alliance uses them as bombers. They're actually half-decent in space, as long as your target isn't an Interceptor or a speed junkie.

I for one have always loved the Y-wing. Just something about it makes me like it. So its a bit slow, good pilot skills can cover for the speed
