His point was you shouldn't need it. If you've ever played X-Wing or X-Wing Alliance you'd understand fully.

I'm not sure why the devs made it that way. I think it was just easier for them rather than actually trying to code something nice in.

Perhaps trying to "modernize" dogfighting. In today's skies, if your opponent gets a missile-lock on you, kiss your afterburners goodbye. At least they gave us chaff launchers.

why is it impossible? seems kinda silly that a missle can react faster than the most savy ace pilot

Yeah wish it was easier to evade those missles. I caught myself hitting the freakin "I" button on my keyboard once, forgot I wasn't in TIE Fighter, or XWA and couldn't target an incoming missile.. d'oh. Got kinda hairy in the Endor system once, had a B-Wing firing missles at me.. then some pirate ship got interested in me and did the same thing, totally wiped out my back armor on my Interceptor, luckily I was able to waste em both. Close call indeed.

Hmm. I nearly always dodge them by hitting boosters, rolling and making a sharp turn. Mind you, I've just started doing Tier 2 missions, going against Tier 2-3 ships mostly, so I guess they hit more often with more advanced opponents.

Pay really close attention to your shields/armor when you do that. Some missiles are weak and so the damage is just barely more than what their lasers are doing. Are you really sure that you're actually evading them? I'm 3333 and haven't successfully evaded one yet. Also, I'm firing torpedoes at Interceptors that are hitting 100%. A torpedo shouldn't be able to hit an Interceptor unless they aren't doing any manuevers what so ever.

lol, I've caught myself doing the same thing several times. I wish they had coded something like that in, plus the ability to shoot them down.

Section XI. Counter Measures

Counter measures: These are used to deter incoming missiles.
There are two parts to counter measures which I will go into below.

Launchers:

Chaff: Standard counter measure launcher.
Micro-chaff: More effective than the chaff.
IFF Confuser: Launches a small device that makes enemy missiles think they are targeting a friendly target. More effective than the micro-chaff
Sensor decoy: It is a sensor decoy system. Moderately effective against incoming missiles
EM Emitter: Disrupts a missiles sub-system. Highly effective.

Counter measure packs: These packs hold small amounts of counter measures, and need to be loaded into the launcher before each flight.

Chaff: Level 1
Sensor decoy: Level 3
Micro-Chaff: Level 5
IFF Confuser: Level 7
EM Emitter: Level 9

Eh, maybe. But a torpedo still shouldn't be able to curve right round behind an Interceptor and still strike it. Those things are too sluggish for that. They weren't designed for dogfighting... the were designed for taking down capitol class ships.

No, you're absolutely right. You have to pick the right ship to dogfight with. That's where countermeasures come in as a ship with heavy artillery.

I currently use sensor decoys with packs that hold 15 decoys each. Whenever I get missle lock on me I shoot off 2-3 decoys and never get hit. I imagine once I get the level 9 decoys that it will be more effective.

But you are correct - without decoys, no amount of speed, turning, boosters, etc. has caused me to evade a missle yet. That is just too bad that the code isn't in there for that like it was in XvT.
