just my two cents, here.
Recyclers help anyone who crafts anything. which is a great thing, but I think honestly. (cheer for the dev's)
Could they please re-vamp this a little more into a crafter style quest? (I don't see how this is good for combat professions, other than it says you need a combat skill to get anything good in this game)
Simply put, you choose a profession with which to do the quests (but you have to be able to craft something). Kinda like a crafting trial.
You then have to produce items to fill the orders of the people whom will reward you with the various pieces. (The pieces should not be tradeable)
The items you turn in, must have you as the creator.
Only allow a crafter to work one quest at a time.
Examples
Smuggler: uses metal, flora, meats, gases. So he could obtain the Metal recycler, Creature Recycler, Flora Recycler, Gas Recycler.
Armorsmith: uses metal, chemical, hides So the armorsmith could obtain the Metal, creature, chemical recyclers
but you get the idea. This would make things challening for crafters, and if they are not tradeable. Then it is a sign that they are an accomplished crafter.

I wonder how many agitator motor schematics have been destroyed because of ignorance?

I'll have to say I was a little disappointed when they made recyclers lootable. It does not make any sense at all. I agree that they should of made them available through some sort of crafting trial as you mentioned. Give a little content for the crafter side of the game.
Some of the pieces are too hard to obtain for the simple crafter, making them only obtainable by those who can afford to buy it, or have a combat alt. who can find the pieces themselves. Regardless, some of the components are hard enough to find as is.

Well, I'm a Master DE, Master Artisan, and Master Rifleman, and with just the one combat profession I've been able to loot all the parts for myself (using armor and buffs, of course). I've built a metal recycler, and have all the schematics/parts for most of the other recylers - just missing those damn agitator motors.
If you don't have any combat skills, then yes - it is going to be expensive if you buy all the parts outright. I believe the point the Devs were trying to make in terms of economics was to give the combat prof something other than decorations or looted components that are just used in items resold to the same combat professions to sell/trade back to crafters that they want as an end product. The problem is, the lower-mid range crafters a recycler is going to help the most (in saving discarded resources for future use) may not find it worth the cost.
I'd highly reccomend a barter with people - you trade your crafted products for the parts. Everything except the agitator motor is relatively common - I've looted some of the schematics and parts from MOBS I wasn't even looking for them on. I just hope the Devs up the agitator motor in the loot table - it seems like every painting and the other new loot is just everywhere, and the agitator motor is used in several recycler schematics and is really a source of...agitation for many players.

i'm both a crafter and a combatant, and i think the way the recyclers were done is a lot of fun. i'm attempting to craft them all by looting all the items myself, and it's taken me several days, and quite a few buff sessions, but regardless, having a lot of fun going around finding the stuff i need. i'm a patient guy, and it paid off with the agitator motors, now gotta convince some tuskens to drop some feed tubes for me, no luck so far, but in due time, all in due time.
