I have a "rare artifact" that I received from "a scientist" in Mos Eisley. I've heard rumors that these things were suppossed to enhance your chance to loot and/or give you better loot.RecentlyI heard that some artifacts work and that some don't. Suppossedlythere is some way to tell the difference. Is thisrare artifactrumor just a hoax? If not, please provide more info. Thanks!

the real hoax is that a "rare" artifact can be aquired from a quick and easy npc mission.

From what I understand there are two different versions of the same thing.
One is gotten from an easy mission that doesn't work - the other is lootable of DJK's and DJM's that looks the same but shows up in Inventory different (has a different object type slightly). The former is the easy to come by and doesn't work. The latter - much harder to find and from what I've heard makes a difference. How much of a difference I don't know, but my friends who have them seem to get nicer loot than not.
Maybe it's just luck. Or more likely a mental thing - where they loot more and think they're getting better stuff than they did before. They still loot a lot of junk I can assure you.
Can't hurt to keep one on you though can it?

I have a theory on loot, some say having force luck helps with loot but i'm not totally convinced. I had a free unlock from the holo days & unlocked luck (so i have force luck4). When you read the description, it says can help increase the amount of credits on the loot.
So with that said I think looted items are pre-determined by the server. Only reason i'm saying this is because i caught someone using a 3rd party program that could read the loot on an npc before it was dead or even attacked. Back when group loot messages where still around, we were grouped, just 3 of us, one being a friend of his. He died trying to attack a Tusken Captain at the tusken fort POI. In group chat he said to his buddy, "hey {character's name} can you come kill this captain who just killed me? He has a locked container & tusken robe that I want." After he killed i got the group message he looted a locked container & tusken robe.
Didn't see the guy on after that, I didn't think about reporting him at the time. I assume by the way he said that, He had to be running something to let him see the loot. I still wander about who could be using something similar today and wander if the major kill stealers use em, ones who everybody on the server knows by name because of kill stealing.

That doesn't make sense primarily because the server has no reason to send your comp that information before the creature is killed. It also makes no sense because there is no reason to have the creatures loot predetermined.

Depending on how long ago this was, there used to be a command;
/open
That command allowed you to open a target's inventory. The command was supposedly no longer valid, (I forget which patch it was hotfixed in) then it only worked on npc's inside a cave like structure.
Over the summer I was able to walk into the crystal caves, click on an npc, type /open and see thier weapons (That they never used) that had stats of +500 max damage. As well as any loot.
Hope this helps
