Well, after many unlucky hours, I finally killed a Corsair that yielded a schematic for the Smelting Machine. It works! I put in 6 units of utterly uber steel and it spit out 6 units of utter garbage

Well, yea. The idea is that it makesa LOT of resources, not good ones.

The Smelting Machine schematic requires a Master Artisan to craft it.

I built mine. Heating Elements from the Binarye (you need 4). They fixed the POI spawn at the bunker so it respawns every 5 mins. I went to the Cosair POI on Lok and used a 3hr buff to get one metal recycler schematic. You will also be able to loot the small power motors there. (they drop rather easily and you only need 1) I could not find the agitator motor though. I didnt see an option to experiment with creating it either. Alot of work to put it together. Not sure what use i'm gonna get out of it as a Master Shipwright.

I am also a shipwright and will share with you how I plan to use my smelting machine:
- When making ships, I also have liittle stack of steel and chemicals left over. I'm going to recycle the steel (and eventually chemicals as well) and dump it all in a factory that has a manufacturing schematic for 1000 ship paint kits or ship texture kits. These things sell like hot cakes and don't depend on resource stats.
- Let's be realistic, you can dump the worst resources known to man into a ship and still come out with something reasonable; that is, the resource stats don't make all that much difference. So, recycle steel, aluminum, iron, etc. to make build up stacks that can be used to make another ship. The ship won't be the best ship you can make, but you can sell this ship cheap to players that don't have much money.
In addition, my shipwright is a droid engineer. Many droid sub-components do not depend on resource stats. Also, flight computers do not depend on stats.
I think these recyclers are great and I fully intend on leveraging mine. I will post new ideas for them as they come.

Yes, thats what i was thinking of using it for. The ship tools. I could also sell starter ships very cheap , maybe 10-20k with recycled materials. I'm a master artisan too, so i'm sure i can use them there.
I've also made the Ore Recycler: 4 Heating Elements i looted from Binarye on Talus (do not drop often, you may need a few buff sessions), Tumble Blender was also hard to make (you need 3 blue wire, i got my 3 off binarye also, these drop even less often) The Ore Schematic i got from the Kobolas on Rori (they have a POI and you can get missions)

I've made one as well and my only gripe with it is it has to be in your inventory to use. I really was hoping to be able to put it in my guild's crafting house for all to use whenever they needed, and to make a cool workbench with all of the recyclers
. Guess I still can but with everyone picking them up all the time so much for aesthetics.
Oh, and why not the cool graphics they originally showed? Rehashed items with new names make for lame new stuff

I was under the impression with the recycler you could combine different kinds of resources to like a generic metal or whatever.... when I do it steel turns to steel... copper to copper and so forth... anyone know if its messed or thats how its supposed to work?

It works as intended. It doesn't create uber-resources, just gives you the possiblity to stack different types of the same resource (e.g. 2 differend named steels will turn into one generic steel).
