You know, the way the loot system works in SWG is wonky, and we all know it. We all have ideas on who should carry loot, how valuable loot is, and so on.
What the game truly lacks are pieces of truly rare loot. As in the type that only one or 2 are added to the databse, and once looted, will never spawn again until the original is destroyed. Things like weapons, Armor, Vehicles - these are things that fall in to the mega rare category.
On top of that, I'd create an entire Mythos about these pieces of loot, and put it in weird places. An anonymous non-attackable NPC (You know, the kind we all completely ignore at all times) here and there across every planet would carry pieces of the tale. And until X number people have heard the whole story of the rare loot, it doesn't spawn. Once it does appear, the NPCs go silent (or better yet, switch to a new set of NPCs to keep people from writing down the tale and repeating the process) - Until said item is destroyed or decays to 0/XXXX condition - Leaving the owner the shell as a memory, but non-functional.
To top it ALL off, I would make EVERY creature on every planet capable of dropping the item, so nobody would have an advantage by camping the "usual" spawn places. Imagine the amusement and outrage when the Lowly Rill that everyone ignores & considers as beneath their notice drops the Mega Rare loot.
Thank goodness I'm not a Dev - I'd actually make things worth something and fun.

Hehehe, you kill a dwarf nuna and a message appears
'You notice something on the corpse that catches your attention, loot the carcass to recover this item'
Excellent suggestion to shake up to system

This isn't plausible...
Why would a gnort be carrying some uber weapon...?
...right.

uber weapons would make the guy uber-pvper... this isnt a fps unfortunately..so that would ruin the game..as if it isnt already that way.

The fundamentals of your idea here isgreat. The one point I disagree on is the randomosity of the drops. It should not be completely random; I think we can agree that most of it should drop off humanoid NPC's.

Are you telling me you've never killed a Rancor and looted a piece of armor? I've gotten TONS of seemingly strange little loots like this - The point is, with the current system, everyone and their Loot Wh*re brother know what drops what, where to camp, etc. The effect of utter randomness removes that ability entirely. I'm not saying it should be this way for all items - Just those odd legendary ones.

I disagree utterly. The guy is a new player, has no clue how to use the item effectively, but seeing *Legendary item* or some such, assumes he can take on the Jedi down the street. Duels said Jedi (Or any competent PvP player) and gets the DB. Item instantly takes decay. Rinse and repeat, suddenly the item is gone, starting the process over. My point - "uber' items don't equal "uber" ability.

one other problem i see you say a new one only spawns when the old one is destroyed, what if a collector gets it and lets it sit on a wall in his house for years.... makes it ever rarer i guess.

So new player with uber item doesn't have many specials, doesn't know how to pvp, doesn't have certification for the weapon he loots and goes and DB's all the Jedi and everyone who stands in his way because he has the 'uber weapon' even if he doesn't know squat about how to PvP and rules the galaxy until it gets to 0 condition? .... Sounds ... great... for the new player ... right.. yeah....
Sorry if thats not what you're trying to say, but thats kinda how it looked to me.. ![]()

A very good point. But, in the most likely scenario, the item is going to be SO good (Hence Legendary) that said person will eithe use it, or sell it for a Kajillion creds. But, since it IS a possibility - perhaps a work around is giving it a set life as well.
